You would be an absolute FOOL to miss out on this second chance… The final is on Saturday which gives you a full day to travel. It’s probably going be a miserable trip, but the alternative seems far worse IMO.

Leave tomorrow morning (get a ride to the rental place from your parents on their way to work), sleep at a friend’s place tomorrow night, drive back saturday. Depending on the timing your parents can either take you to the rental place on Saturday night or Sunday.

EDIT: realized you are probably under 25 - so the rental will probably cost more than the listed price but should still be doable assuming you’re over 18 at least.

Buy a bus ticket. Sleep in the library for a night if you gotta.
Why don’t you email your professor and explain your situation. He might let you take at a different date.

I missed the final. I wasn’t paying attention, so I didn’t know when it was. I mean, I forgot when it was. I had other things to do that week, so it was hard to remember.
Anyway, when I realized that I missed it, I drove home right away. Eight hours one way.
Sorry, but the day you picked for a re-take isn’t convenient for me. Could you volunteer some other time out of your summer schedule to make it easier on me?

When are grades due? Saturday might be the last possible date for the professor to grade the final exam and enter the final grades into the computer, so another date might not be possible. It’s not a good idea to ask for another make-up day, either. I would definitely try to find a way to be there for the exam. You have a B+ in the class, which is great. Don’t ruin it by missing this opportunity!
Are your parents unwilling to drive you? How did you get home in the first place?
Post #25, he was kicked out of his dorm and can’t find transportation. Yes he didn’t pay attention about his final but it may not make any difference to the professor so an email clarifying is not out of order.
OP, if Saturday is the last day to turn in grade then you know. He might you an incomplete versus the D or F.
Wow, your professor is being super generous. Most of them would say you screwed it up and will need to retake the course. Sometimes these things happen. For instance, my friend forgot to do a whole back side of a final and didn’t realize it until her professor emailed her. The professor was able to give it to her via an online test because she too lived far away from school. Anyways, you have a lot of options to pick from. Honestly, you should try to tell your parents that by not being able to take this final will result in a failing grade and therefore will cost them money down the road when you need to retake the course.
If you decide to take public transportation you can sleep on your way there and then pull an all nighter and go take the final. You should be booking a flight, finding a bus, or car right now instead of asking us for help. You are losing valuable time. Unless you go with the whole email the professor because it doesn’t work for you. However, if you do that you won’t know how they might react. They could take the offer off the table completely and you will fail. It is in your best interests to get to that final.
Good luck! Also maybe investing in a planner or something could be beneficial to you for the rest of your college career.
Yes, the professor is being SUPER GENEROUS. YOU ARE VERY LUCKY to have any chance at all to retake it.
However, there might be another option. Is there a local college near you? If you can take the final exam under secure conditions local to you, and pay to have the exam Fed Exed to him, he might accept that. It would require someone high up (Dean of Students or head of the Counseling Center) at the local college to convince the UNT professor that this isn’t some kind of game you are playing.
Otherwise, get thee to campus as soon as possible. I’d drive my kid 8 hours if I had to, and swear at him the whole way…
So think about it - how much money to retake the course vs. how much money and time to get back to campus?
(BUT - if you think you won’t do well on the final, suck it up, thank him for the offer, and just retake the course)
