My son starts college in a couple months, and I was wanting to give him a good book that would help him transition from senior to freshman. Any ideas?

The Naked Roommate. Seriously. :)

Anything by Tucker Max. :)

Isn’t Tucker Max the “Drink beer in hell” author?

That name rings a bell. If that’s the author, I have never heard my son laugh so hard from a book. ;)

I went to Tucker’s website and read through some of his stories. Some of them are pretty funny, but I’m not sure it’s the kind of material I want my son to read right before he goes off to school. I’m looking more for something that will explain the stuff thats changed since I was in school. Apparently, it’s a lot different.

The Naked Roommate is perfect for the need you describe. It covers all sorts of potentially awkward situations as well as general “university survival.” It’s frank, well organized, accessible, humorous, and engaging. And it’s easy to pick it up and read an article or two, then put it back down. The advice in the articles I read seemed pretty sound to me. Highly recommended.

Son really liked Cal Newport’s How to Win at College. He read it the summer before his freshman year and again on the plane on his way to college.
