I can only play Dr Horrible, the Decemberists, Girl Talk, Kanye, and the Black Keys so many times - and with a couple weeks of reading left to go, I need some new music to keep me (and the applicants from my territory) company.

Any suggestions on good albums I can bop along to while I read?

This might give away that I am a parent and not a student - but I have really been enjoying in my car listening to “Romance: Songs From the Heart” by Frank Sinatra (nobody beats old blue eyes!) - not your usual Sinatra mix!

(PS - I asked on another thread - Dan when will accepted student days be this year - in case my daughter gets in I don’t want to conflict with another vacation)

Personally, I can listen to Vampire Weekend all day long. The energy in all of their songs keeps me pumped up. If not vampire weekend, you can try Phoenix, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Arcade Fire, The Kooks, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Arctic Monkeys. I can keep going all day long, but I think these should keep you occupied for at least a few weeks.

Okay… I will be sharing my most beloved artist. Johnny Flynn. Check out his albums Been Listening and A Larum. He’s very talented. Give him a chance and you will not regret it.

If you want some great music from last year, try Middle Brother, Tune-yards, Girls and St. Vincent. From the bands you mentioned, I think you’d enjoy all of them.

Edit: the thought of an admissions officer listening to Sleigh Bells while reading applications just cracks me up. :)

Half of these posts have pointed me to new stuff, and the other half are reminding me of the great stuff I have.

Stuff I’ve got (and love):
St Vincent
Tune-yards
Sleigh Bells (consider yourself cracked up, since I listened to this yesterday )
Johnny Flynn (who I saw live last year)
Literally everything Ronniedab mentioned
The Blue Album
Sinatra (and, for good measure, James Darren)

@SethHg Hilarious, actually. And musically, obviously, really talented.

@TheRhino Only a couple of weeks of reading left. Then there’s still committee. It’s considered rude to pop your headphones in during committee. So, that’s too bad. On the other hand, I trade near-absolute solitude for non-stop fellowship.
