I Need Advice About Summer Jobs

Hello, I'm new to the forum and thought this was the best place to post my question. I'm in my senior year and I'm thinking about getting a summer job this summer. The problem is, I'm going with my family on a 5-day vacation and I would like to go on a ten-day mission trip with my church. I did this trip for the first time last summer and it was such a great experience, and this is my last year I can go on the trip with my youth group. However, my parents want me to get a job this summer, and I figure that once I'm in college I'll appreciate having some of my own money to spend.

So my question is, do any of you know of a type of summer job that I could get that would allow me to be on vacation for 15 days? I have considered asking the co-worker of my mom if she needs a nanny for her daughter this summer, as I'm pretty sure she does. However, that probably won't pay as well and doesn't qualify for "real job experience." Any ideas please?

Pretty much any minimum wage job will take days off into consideration. If you apply and get an interview, make sure to tell your employer that there are some days you will need off. He/she will most likely understand.

I work at a fast food restaurant. I had to be out for two week-long summer camps. One was a JROTC cadet boot camp, and the other was a cross country running camp. I told my employer in advance, and he scheduled the days off for me. It’s not like you have vacation time in a minimum wage job. You’re only getting paid for the hours that you work.

Fast food is a great place to start. You can start and leave pretty easily, which will be good because you’ll be off for college at the end of the summer. I will warn you though, it is extremely hard to find a job nowadays. Even a minimum wage job. Put in applications everywhere you can think of! Good luck. PM me if you have any more questions. :)

Thanks for the advice.
