I need advice on a transfer application-esp. ideas for extracurriculars

I’m a h/s senior who decided not to apply to Brown at the last minute (stupid). I got into a well respected-not to mention CHEAP-public university and plan on going there next year. I’d still like to try for Brown after my freshman year. I know how difficult it is to transfer, but I’m trying anyway…I’ll also apply to some other less competitive liberal arts schools. Below are my past stats and future plans…please give me tips on how to improve my application!

I’m confident that I will get straight A’s in college. Cocky, I know, but I can be a very good student when I put my heart into it! I’m also pretty sure I can impress at least ONE professor or TA enough to get a good recommendation, and can definitely get a great one from a high school teacher. My essays will be good. I am a strong writer and also have great English teachers who will help me revise if I send it to them, even after I graduate.

I plan on double majoring, but I’m not sure in what yet. My options are: Theatre, English, Journalism or International Relations. I plan on taking intro courses in each of these fields during the first year of college to help me figure out which two I like best. As for a career…ask me later hahah. I know I want to work with people in some capacity…maybe teaching, and if I go into that I would probably work with TeachAmerica or some other type of alternative certification program.

My high school record is not great. My ACT was 31, and my GPA was about a 3.7 cumulative. I was Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, and was active in theatre, choir, and lots of school service and activity planning clubs, but I have nothing remarkable.

That said (thanks if you’re still reading), I really need something extracurricular-wise to stand out! I’ll write for the newspaper in college, and hopefully join some kind of volunteer club…but I have this whole summer free and would like to take advantage of it! BRING ON THE BRILLIANT IDEAS!

Also, does anybody know of any awards I could try to win for writing or acting?
THANK YOU!

Your test scores and GPA are fine, and your ECs are good. I suggest you show your dedication and passion for those ECs in your essays though.
