So I currently have an 18 on the ACT and I nor my parents are content with that score because we both know I can do better. I am so frustrated though because I took a month long course on preparing for the ACT and I only got an 18, a point better than when I took the ACT with no preparation or anything just to see where I was at. I will take the ACT at least two more times in these upcoming months and I have been reading books and taking practice tests (like I did before I took the ACT a few months ago and only got an 18). I would consider my self pretty good in school, I currently have a 3.3 GPA but like I said only an 18 on my ACT. Any ways, does any one have any tips they could give me? Or online/ library sources that really helped you, I am desperate.
Maybe try the SAT instead?
It may be time to scrap the ACT and try the SAT. At least take a practice exam. When I took the practice SAT, I just couldn’t bring my score up. I switched to the ACT and the difference in scores was enough to convince me to start studying for the ACT.
If timing and the math are major problems for you, you should definitely try the Redesigned SAT; however, I think the ACT is much easier of an exam to increase your score so I would recommend you to keep doing the ACT. I have increased my ACT score only by doing practice tests and believe me they help. Until the September Test, you can do various tests and maybe if you can afford it, ask your questions on the practice tests to a tutor?
What did you do in the review class? Was it passive learning (sit and listen to lecture) or active learning (you worked through problems)?
Sitting and listening to a review class will not help much at all.
Sitting down and working through hundreds of practice problems and specifically studying the concepts you are missing — is free and much more beneficial.
