Need help?

I took my ACT for the first time recently and got my scores back, and Im not satisfied at all with them. I didnt study for the ACT because I heard that you wont really be prepared for it the first time you take it anyways, so I just wanted to see what I could get to create a boundary for me. I got a 29 composite, 29 english, 25 math, 32 reading, and 31 science. I thought everything was kind of easy, and knowing what to expect now I think I can raise my scores definatly. What I wanted to know was, what are some important tips/help to raise my scores, and how can I go about doing them. Also since math was my lowest score (and the hardest part for me) what are some tips, formulas, etc. to raise that score up to get around a 30 on it. Im hoping to get a 32-34 next time I take the ACT as well. Is that doable without overly exerting myself because I really would like to get a good ACT score to help earn scholarships to the University of Kentucky, because its really the only way Ill be able to even go to college other than financial aid, given my financial situation. Please help, thanks :)

I’d recommend getting the Princeton Review ACT book and the red book produced by ACT called “the Real ACT”. I would study the Princeton review book and read the sections on strategy for the test and take the practice tests. Focus on the areas where your lowest scores occurred.

Then take an actual practice ACT test from the red book. See what your score is. If you are not happy, keep practicing in the Princeton Review book.

You will have to exert some time to improve your scores that much though. Getting a 32 is reasonable. 34 may or may not be. I do think with some practice, a solid score in the 31-33 range is doable.

And remember that your current score is actually pretty good too. Good luck

not sure how much time you are prepared to spend, but if you spend 1 hour a day practicing a section and 4 hours on the weekend do a practice test and understand why you missed the questions you did, you can improve a lot in just a month.
