I am a senior and so far I have only two colleges in mind: UTEP or Mccombs at UT Austin.
I like both universities and I am having a hard time choosing which one to pick. Right now I'm planning to study business but I'm honestly not sure what I Want to major in. I got into both of these schools and my financial situations are different for both. At UTEP I have a scholarship and I would have a smoother life since I could live with my parents. I have no scholarship at UT and I would graduate with about 25k of debt since I qualify for financial aid. I want to hear feedback from you guys and see what you think. Thank you in advance!

This is a no brainer.
You should apply to UTEP since it has more pros than cons.
Plus it is highly ranked amongst hispanic business schools.
Hope that helped :)

Do you plan on staying in El Paso after graduation? Then go with UTEP. If you’re looking for somewhere else, UT Austin will help get you used to being out of your comfort zone. I graduated from high school in El Paso (I was only there for my senior year) and the only other students I knew at UT who were from El Paso left after the first semester. In Austin, it was as if El Paso wasn’t even part of the state.

The problem is that while having family support can help some students succeed in college, the fact is that UTEP’s graduation rate sucks. If you go to UT, you’ll have the traditional college student experience and job opportunities will be easier to come by. If your student loan debt is all Stafford, $25,000 is actually a reasonable amount to borrow. However, if you are a first generation college student or Hispanic, be prepared to take advantage of whatever programs UT offers to ease the transition. Even then, expect to have to do a lot on your own. Especially since you’re interested in business, I think UT is worth the debt if you think you can handle the transition.

^ I agree with sadilly. $25K is very reasonable for debt, particularly if you don’t plan on law or med school. If you plan to work away from El Paso then with UT you’ll have an easier entry in the job market.

25K is not bad - my concern would be rising costs in the future which seem to grow exponentially - tough call. Living at home will get old after a year - so think about the cost of UTEP and living in an apt for 2-3 years and see if that evens it out - if it does than I say go for Austin.

Would it make sense to spend two years at UTEP, and then transfer? That would give you a little more time in a secure environment while you master the study and time management skills needed for academic success. If you don’t want to leave home just yet, it is OK.
