I need help! --- should I take out a bunch of student loans?

Hi, I am having a crisis. I got into a top liberal arts college out east, and it is the school that I have wanted to go to since day one. I play ice hockey and they have a good hockey team and I was recruited by the coach. The coach thinks I am going there, and that is the school that I definitely want to go to, however it is going to cost my family about $50,000 a year. They do not give scholarships and my family did not qualify for financial aid. I really want to go there, and I feel like I can pay off my loans, which could be over $100,000, but my parents are very doubtful, which is to be expected.
My other option would be to go do Canada. I have been offered a couple of spots at some top schools in Canada, however I'm not sure if I really want to go to school in Canada. I know that may sound lame, but I feel like I want my college experience to take place in the U.S. Going to Canada would be half as much, if not less.
I have to make my decision really quickly. Is it worth being in debt for many years after I graduate to play hockey and possibly harm my family? (I have an older brother who attends U Mich and 4 younger siblings.) Let me know your opinions. Thank you very much!!

This has been talked about endlessly on the forum. The bottom line is, no, you can not and should not borrow that much money for an undergrad education. So don't even think about it.

You might consider taking a year off, apply to some different US schools next fall, or possible apply for spring semester admission starting January 2008.
