ok, UCSD has been my dream school since 8th grade…i wanna major in biology in hope of going to vet school, and i know resume and the college you go to has a lot to do with that…i was accepted into revelle

but out of NO WHERE i was accepted into UCLA, and i laughed cus i was all “right, like ill actually go there” but then i started really thinking about…it slightly looked more upon then UCSD, its almost twice as hard to get into

i love the san diego area and going to UCLA would kinda be a “daring” thing for me i guess, but i really have no idea what i want to do

i heard UCSD is tougher because the premed percentage of the student population is greater than it is at UCLA. Also i heard that UCSD will be more competetive, hence you will have a lower GPA at SD than at LA. Plus, UCLA has a much better social setting. (btw im in the same dilemma)

I wanted to go to UCSD myself junior year, but I never considered it my dream school or something.. I'd stick with UCLA, but I'm not doing Biology...UCLA is better in Econ than UCSD.

UCSD is better in just about everything Biology than UCLA. So I suppose it's really going to depend on whether you'll go with your major (UCSD) or the overall college (UCLA).

yeah...even though UCLA is harder to get accepted to, UCSD is all around a little more perstigious i believe..it also doesnt help the fact that i would put into revelle...haha

i think my BIGGEST thing with NOT attending UCSD is because thats what i am used to..ive been to the campus many times, im USED to the san diego system, and my infutuation with harry potter has really allowed my to like their six different college set up and how people are assigned to the colleges (even if i did get robbed and stuck in revelle i.e. ravenclaw) ok ill stop w the harry potter thing

haha i have a blog on my myspace.com/oinkthepenguin with my woes of which school to attend

I would say UCSD, UCSD is a lot better in Biology. I lived in SD and many people in here only apply to one school, UCSD. U should consider UCLA only if you are gonna do anything other than science

If your ultimate goal is to go to med school (or vet school), UCLA wins without question.

Does UCSD have a better science curriculum? Probably, but UCLA still offers a great education in the sciences.

UCLA is far more prestigious (trust me when I say med schools place emphasis on prestige, not necesarily prestige in the sciences), although I'm not sure which school has a better medical school placement rate. Furthermore, with less pre-meds and less science students, you will have a bit of an edge in UCLA and perhaps even higher grades (I've heard UCSD gives really hard science classes.)

UCLA is in a better environment (IMO) and I liked the school a lot better than UCSD when I saw them. UCSD does have the college system (which is pretty cool) but that shouldn't really affect your decision too much.

Finally, if you decide to change your major, almost any major in UCLA will surpass the equivalent in UCSD, so it would be wiser to go with UCLA.

However, the choice is up to you. They are both great schools which offer magnificent opportunities and they are for different people. Now if you get into UCB, UCLA and UCSD, THEN you've got a hell of a decision to make.

Don't choose your undergraduate school based on one major. You're likely to change goals partway through, and there's a good chance you won't like the major anyway.

Go to the school that you think offers you the most options all-around.

"Don't choose your undergraduate school based on one major. You're likely to change goals partway through, and there's a good chance you won't like the major anyway."

Very true. Also ask input from your favorite teachers.

for your area of study ucsd. cant go wrong either way, both are great state schools that, along with good grades and mcats will place you into excellent med schools.
