UCSD has a medical school?
I thought the only medical schools in the UC system were UCLA, UCSF and UCD.

UC Medical schools = UCSF UCLA UCSD UCI and UCD

ummm ya UCSD has one of the best medical schools

according to USnews.com (if you guys care), UCSD is very highly ranked there

top medical schools for primary care: ucsd is #7 (ucsf is #8, ucdavis is #17, ucla is #23)

top medical schools for research: ucla #14, ucsd #17

Why is there all this talk about UC medical schools as potential undergrads? Even though the UC medical schools are CA-residentially biased, the majority of UC pre-med students won't be attending a CA medical school, or even a medical school in the U.S. Medical schools accept around 100-200 students and getting into any medical school in CA is a very difficult task (consider that you're competing against an international pool of applicants). Take UCLA as the case in point: Geffen's student body is around 20% UCLA undergrad student, the largest percentwise, but don't let that fool you into thinking that you have a great shot by attending UCLA- that 20% is out of 120 open spots a year so you crank the numbers.

^ The more information you discover about the medical school process, the more you'll realize why getting into any U.S. medical school is considered beating the odds. Even if the school is in the middle of nowhere in a state you despise with weather you abhor, you'll be glad you got into even that one medical school. My advice: talk to your pre-med advisor at whatever school you decide to attend from the start and learn all you can about what you're getting yourself into. Try talking to him/her every quarter/semester and get an update on what you need to keep you on track and what you must do to remain a competitive applicant.

Sorry. My mistake for forgetting about UCSD's and UCI's med schools.

not to get ahead of myself...I just love UCSD so much that I was hoping I could do my grad. studies for psych there. I've looked into their grad prog in psych and it's not too bad...very researched oriented tho

UCSD, cause I am biased ;)

I think I've pretty much narrowed it down to UCLA...of course UCSD will always hold a special place in my heart =-)...thx for everyone's advice!

No problem. Welcome to UCLA. :)

Thank you!!! Oooo I'm getting so excited! 3 months til graduation, and 6 months til a whole new life in a whole new city! With all the nice folks I've met on here, I'm looking forward to the bunches of people I'll meet at ucla =-D
