I need help with testing

So I'm a junior with a good GPA at 4.8 and a small but solid and balanced list of Extra-curriculars. The major problem I have right now is TESTING. I took 2 kaplan courses (I used the higher score garentee) but I still only managed a pitiful 1740 on the SAT. So now it is March and I'm registered for the May SAT but recent practice tests still show that I'm around the 1700-1800's level. So now I'm extremely worried that the SAT is the only reason I won't get into a top tier or second tier school. Since I'm asian, I need about 2200-2300 at least to be considered which puts immense pressure on me. Is there any way I can improve my scores within 48 days? I'm registered for the local college SAT prep course but even with that I still don't feel confident.

My counselor said that I might do better on the ACT but I never looked into that. Does the ACT count for the SAT I and SAT IIs by college standards or just SAT Is. If so, do you think it would be better for me to try the ACT in June or take the subject tests in June?

ACT counts for just SAT I for some colleges (not all, you have to check which ones will accept the ACT). If you're applying to UCs, for example, you'll have to take the SAT.

In June, the ACT and SAT test dates are different. You can take the subject tests AND try the ACT during the same month.

Definitely look into the ACT. Most colleges take it, but yeah, make sure the ones you want to apply to do.

The ACT is a LOT less tricky than the SAT and since you have a solid GPA, you could probably do quite well on it without that much studying. It's straightforward; the most important thing to work on is timing.

Take a practice test to see how it feels. There's a free one on review.com.
