So I go to the top school in my state (#2 according to Newsweek but we were #1 last year...) and I'm a junior. I had an AWFUL sophomore year. I had a few friends and 1 teacher die then 2 of my teachers got arrested for pedophilia. My mom was in and out of the hospital as well and I had health problems of my own (nothing too serious but still bad enough since they were emotional). I went from having a 3.84 GPA UW my freshman year to a 3.38 UW sophomore year. What's worse is that my RANK dropped SIGNIFICANTLY. I went from being in the upper echelon of the class to the bottom half. Hovering around 72% to be exact.

Here are my options.

Most of my friends are graduating this year. I'm a junior. If I were to switch schools to the local high school, my GPA would jump from a 3.4-5 to around a 3.6-7 due to the different grading system (my current school practices HEAVY grade deflation. As in you have to get a 97 to actually get an A) and my rank would jump up to the top 10% of the class. This would mean I would switch schools my SENIOR YEAR.

Most of my extra curriculars are available at the new school and the big ones are outside school anyway as are my leadership positions. A teacher from my old school offered to give me a recommendation and I'm getting two more from college professors that I know personally.

There are a lot of other reasons I'm switching schools. For one my current school is about 20-30 minutes away from my House and my parents will be out of town two days a week next year. Plus my parents are basically attempting to force me to switch because of how stressed out I've been feeling (it's bad. Asian bad. Trust me). Also, the school just isn't working for me... Most of my friends are at the other school and I'm just getting unhappier with the new administration.

Which ever school I go to, I know I'll be happy.

I'm an Asian female by the way.

Here are the top schools I will be applying to:

Wellesley College
Haverford College (TOP school for me :D It's so beautiful!!)
Bryn Mawr College
Smith College
Mt. Holyoke College
George Washington University
College of William and Mary
Case Western Reserve University

So those are my tops. What I'm asking for an opinion on is if switching schools is worth it? For the GPA boost and Rank? Also the college counselors at the school I'd be switching to are WAY better (just saying...). What do you think? Will switching schools my Senior year hurt me too much? If I explain what occurred my sophomore year AND why I switched schools senior year, will that be way too much?
