Switching High Schools Junior Year... Good or Bad Idea?

My dad hasn't lived in the state for a couple years now, and I think I'm finally succumbing to pressures of moving and changing schools.
This year has been hell for me -- at school and at home. I'd always been a straight-A student before, but the past year my GPA dropped due to non-academic issues. I think the only reason keeping me here is my friends, and fear of change, although a new environment might get me back on track. My EC's aren't firmly grounded here, so I don't think it would have too big of an impact on applying to colleges.

Anyone here switched schools before? Would you recommend it?

Hi! I switched schools my junior year. I had always been at the top of the class until high school due to non-academic issues as well… my social life went from amazing to nonexistent, horrible issues with my family, etc. I craved a fresh start where no one had preconceived notions of me and where I didn’t have to walk past my old friends and boys who broke my heart every day.

My life turned around in the most wonderful way after switching. I’ve made amazing friends, I have the perfect boyfriend, and I’ve been getting straight A’s ever since I made the change. Go for it! :)

I know people who have switched the summer before senior year. Pretty big changes, especially considering since they were like NJ > CA and NJ > Midwest. It worked out though and they did great at their new schools.

I know what you mean…

The people at my school are pretty closed-minded, and friendships at our school are pretty cemented by high school. I guess that doesn’t go for all schools. Thanks guys. :)

I am now in the situation you were once in exactly. Please tell me how it went for you, I am having a really hard time making a decision. Did you end up switching? Did you make friends? How were your grades? I am so conflicted it is unreal…Please help me decide!
