I need some advice on my schedule next year

<p>Hi guys! I'm not sure is this the right section or not, since this is my first thread in this forum.
I'm a sophomore in September, and right now I need to do final touches to my schedule.
My schedule next year would probably be:
Honor Lang II
Honor Pre-Cal
AP Bio
AP Chem
AP World History
Band/AP Chinese
In my school, I have to take concert band in order to take marching band, and if I take concert band, I cannot take AP Chinese. (I took Marching band this year w/o concert band, but that is because the old music teacher allowed me to do it (which got replaced).)
I came to US after sixth grade in Taiwan, so I'm pretty confident to get a 5 in AP Chinese.
Is band really important to college? I'm aiming at one of the UCs or stanford.
So if I really take concert band, I can self study AP Chinese.
But if I take AP CHinese, it would be easier to get a 5 and also higher my GPA.
PLease give me some advice! Thanks in advance!</p>

<p>Band is good for your profile, but so is taking the AP Chinese course and having a good GPA. </p>

<p>Do whichever you’d prefer, don’t worry about what colleges think. If you’re indifferent, AP Chinese would probably be a little more beneficial. Then again, if you have the opportunity to win awards or become a drum major in band, that could benefit you more.</p>

<p>So. Really, do what you want to do. You’re taking enough APs that it won’t make much of a difference either way.</p>

<p>@Pancaked
thanks. If I take Marching band, I probably cant get a good position.</p>

<p>Band would take up a lot of time though.</p>

<p>I think you should stick with band. You can take AP Chinese junior/senior year, or self-study it. If you know the teacher well, you could always ask for copies of the assignments/tests/practice materials and do it on your own time, which will help you with self-studying.</p>

<p>Would band help a lot on application?</p>

<p>^^^^^^
Agreed</p>

<p>I thought the UC’s require foreign language classes.</p>

<p>@CuriousJane
If I self study AP exam and pass it, I wont need it</p>

<p>[A-G</a> courses | UC Admissions](<a href=“http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/a-g-requirements/index.html]A-G”>http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/a-g-requirements/index.html)</p>

<p>anymore help? bump</p>

<p>Stick with band. It rounds out your profile a lot, where as Chinese does not, being from Taiwan.
When a student takes a foreign language AP in his first language, it looks like he is trying to get an easy A.
Band, on the other hand, is a very time-consuming EC that takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Personally, I’d be much more impressed with a student taking four years of band than seeing a Chinese student ace AP Chinese.</p>

<p>If you are a native speaker of Chinese, shouldn’t you be able to get a 5 on the AP test without needing any classes? Then you can use the slot for band.</p>
