I need some advice (UCONN vs. Stony Brook vs. UB vs. Macaulay Honors vs. Steven's IT vs..)

Hello! I am a high school senior who is trying to decide where to go for the first year of college. I’m considering the schools mentioned above and I have done some research, but I do want some further insight into this.

I am considering (not ranked in any particular order):

  1. UCONN
  2. Stony Brook (SUNY)
  3. University at Buffalo (SUNY)
  4. Steven’s Institute
  5. Macaulay Honors at Baruch(CUNY)
  6. Binghamton.

I’m looking for a more campus/college town vibe, but I am also open to urban areas. Also, the major that I’m leaning towards is the Biology field, but I also have interests in Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, and Economics.

In my second year of college, I’m hoping to transfer to NYU, Columbia University, Colgate, or Harvard. I would like to know how likely are my chances of being accepted and which school is better for me to attend for a better chance at a successful transfer?

Ok I have to assume you did not get into any of your hope to transfer schools correct? do you live in NY or CT, is money a issue , do you need aid to go to any of these schools. I would don’t plan on transferring to your wish list next year, very hard to transfer unless your full pay.

I live in the NJ/NY area and money is not a huge factor, but something to consider.

For the money part, try this calculator: https://www.finaid.org/calculators/awardletteradvanced.phtml

Once you’ve determined which places are truly affordable in case you end up staying for all four years, then pick one of those. Yes, many students are successful at transferring, but many aren’t. You need to do your best to start out at a place you can be happy with.

Thank you for your input and the link!

I read somewhere that picking the easier school is better because then you’ll have a higher GPA which is favorable if you want to transfer, but I’m not 100% sure that this is true or if it’s considered at all.

Based on your academic interests, consider SBU.

if your from NY either SBU or Suny Bing, if NJ Rutgers or TCNJ
