I need some advices!

hello everyone, i'm a Vietnamese student and i'm new to the cc. I'm planning to go studying abroad in the US the next year. I've been doing some research and have got my eyes on some really great schools. But i'm just wondering, can you guys give me some information about the states: Massachusetts, Washington, New York, California? Like life expenses, what the people are like, should i go study abroad there... I really like CA and NY but i've heard that everything there is very expensive and there aren't many good private schools.
Please advise! Thank you all so much!

Most boarding schools (grades 9-13) have dorms for international and boaring students, so the cost of living is included in the cost of attending. Check out boardingchoolreview.com

thank you for your answer. I’ve already checked out that website but i really hope that you can help me narrow my choice. Can you please tell me about the weather, life expenses (i’d like to wander round and buy some stuff). And any suggestion of high schools in CA and NY? I’d like to know from other ppl personal experiences, the information in boardingchoolreview.com seems to be a lil old

You have asked incredibly broad questions which do not necessarily invite the sort of succinct answers that are more common on a forum.

Here’s one example of how it’s nearly impossible to provide meaningful answers to the questions you have posed…

Massachusetts
While they are both in the same state, there’s a huge difference between a school like Deerfield (with apologies to current and former students, it’s in the middle of nowhere) and Milton, which is in a suburb of Boston. So, within the same state, you have a school that will offer you the opportunity to “wander around and buy stuff” and one that will not necessarily lend itself to that.

So…it will help your own cause if you narrowed things down to specific schools.

And FYI, there are plenty of great schools in NY and CA. Perhaps you will find this site more useful in your search: http://www.boardingschools.com/

CA: [California/CA Boarding School - Boarding School Review](Best Boarding Schools in California (2023))
I suggest Cate and Thacher
NY:[New York/NY Boarding School - Boarding School Review](Best Boarding Schools in New York (2023))
I suggest Ross,Emma Willard(all-girls),Buffalo Seminary (all-girls),Millbrook,The Masters.

thank you!

If you are looking at states in the northeast, I would not limit yourself to just NY state. As you are an int’l student then, I am guessing that you want proximity to an int’l airport like JFK. If so, you should also look at schools in the surrounding states.

You need to look at a map of the U.S.

I suggest you PA.A wonderful state with wonderful schools.CT is also (

thank you GMT+7
NicoleNguyen: i like CT too, Im in love with Taft and Kent but somewhat scared by the haunted thing. And can you suggest some schools in PA besides Perk?

PA has many great schools. One of them is Wyoming Seminary  Mercersburg Academy,George School and Westtown are also good.CT has Hotchkiss (one of the HADES)
