I need some suggestions about Off campus housing (Apartments)

I am a male transfer student and have been looking for a place to live for two weeks already. (I am really kind of nervous person since I came from another country.)

These are my questions.. .

Why most of the apartments around the campus have really bad reviews (google review + facebook)?

Can anyone tell me any good apartment for my budget around $400- $500 (Walking to FSU, private bath, gym) ?

How about these apartments (The colony, University village, Savannah)?

Or anything you think I need to know please tell me :)

Thank You

Most of the places near campus seem to have bad reviews due to the management.

The one that I can sort of attest to is University Village. I’ve had several friends live there and none of them seemed to dislike the place. I did kind of like the layout, although the rooms in my friend’s apartment didn’t seem spacious (if you really care about that).

Unfortunately, I can’t really attest to either of the other complexes.

I am surprised there aren’t more students talking about off campus housing. I am transferring in the Fall of 2015 and the only place I see that is safe is The Retreat.

I’m transferring also. But I found a couple places . Seminole grand, the osceola apartments, osceola ridge. I really like the osceola apartments.

The retreat is nice but it’s not walking distance

What do you mean by “safe”? If you mean crime-wise, everywhere is going to have crime. Hell, FSU has had very little FSUPD-campus-wide-email-worthy crime for a long time, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have crime. If you mean by reviews… I don’t think I’ve seen anywhere off campus actually get positive ratings consistently. Most reviewers have issues with management of a lot of the student-focused complexes, for a number of reasons.

One thing I’ve always heard is to avoid Seminole Grand. You don’t appear to be leaning that way, but the location is very close to Frenchtown, and I swear that burglaries in the complex are more common than most other places. I have had multiple friends live in Osceola Ridge and all of them liked it, which is good. It’s also on Ocala, so although it’s a long one, you could walk to campus if needed.

The Osceola Apartments are the closest to campus of the 3, so that’s probably something positive to you.
