Off campus housing

Hey, I live in a dorm right now, but I'm starting to look for my housing next year. I know that I want to live in an apartment that's walking distance from campus. Does anybody have any good experiences with any apartments that are close to campus? I've checked out a few that I liked, but they didn't get very good reviews online. My main priority is safety, because I read online that some apartment complexes don't have good security and there are a lot of robberies and stuff which really scare me.

Thank you for your help!

University Village on Call Street is pretty good. Lock your doors and you should be fine.

In my opinion, its a hit or miss experience so you really can’t rely to heavily on online reviews. I live in Down Under and the reviews aren’t great, but I have no complaints. Why ? Because its STUDENT HOUSING !!! Living in an apartment complex where there are students is nothing like living in a regular complex per se…students aren’t the cleanest, nicest or most courteous people if you get where I’m going. Granted, some complexes are better than other but that goes hand in hand with the pricing :</p>

You make it seem like college students in apartment complexes are terrible people haha.

I don’t mean it to be like that…lots of people seemed to be shocked by low reviews on nearly every complex online and I’m just saying you can’t expect it to be sunflowers and daisies…

^^^ If they want a rate of sunflowers and daisies then that is exactly what I expect. The prices for some of these dumps are simply outrageous. They get away with lack of basic maintenance and are known to hide fees. Safety is also an issue (I’ve had one friend this last semester who had her apartment broken into.)

If anyone knows of any decent 2 bedrooms with a dishwasher/garbage disposal/laundry in the room that are relatively close to campus with the price of McCollum x2 I’d love to hear about it :)

I’m staying at a 4/4 in GrandMarc next year - it’s right behind Jimmy John’s and Burger King. It’s only been built for a little over two years so all of the rooms still look brand new! There’s a pool, a courtyard, a pretty nice gym (which a month ago they finished remodeling), a theater room (that you can rent out), a game room, tanning beds, free coffee and hot chocolate bar, wifi, spacey kitchen and living room, own washer/dryer, utilities included (except electric), full extra long beds, a tub/shower for each room, and a ton more! I’m so excited to live there! All you have to do to get campus is walk out of the building, cross Tennessee Street, and you’re right by the west side of campus. The only downside is its price… right now the rates are 4br/4bath $685/mo, 4br/2bath $620/mo, 3br/3bath $710/mo, 2br/2bath $725, 1br/1bath $975

I’ve looked at Boardwalk @ Appleyard, West 10 and The Preserves. I’ve heard about bedbugs and bad parking at Boardwalk. Looking for more suggestions on places similar to these. Everything seems so pricey but after living on campus I’m not sure what the typical cost is. I’m wondering if I am just looking at expensive complexes. Also, not sure I want to get a full year lease and the only one of these 3 that offers by the semester is Boardwalk. Suggestions???

I too am looking for off campus housing and I try to take all the reviews with a grain of salt because people who write reviews either have some really good experiences or some really bad ones, you never hear from the people that found their experience to be alright. It’s just overwhelming searching for places to live when every one of them has stellar and ****ty reviews.

Some of the reviews are downright SCARY. Mice and roaches, sexual offenders and stabbings…oh my. Tennessee Street Station looked pretty good and a decent price of $495/$515 w/small study. I’m tending toward that one this week, but that’s because I haven’t found any reviews on it. LOL. If not, then I will probably go with West 10 but it’s more $$, at $589. The prices quoted are for furnished units. Still open to suggestions…

I’m transferring there for Fall 2011 and all the advice I’ve been given was that people should look on Craigslist for room rentals. I’m not sure if I totally agree with this. One girl on Yahoo Answers told me that Boardwalk is one of the worst apartments. She also generalized that most of the big companies that manage the complexes “take advantage” of students. I hope not. I need to find somewhere to stay haha.

I need to find somewhere to stay for fall to! I am transferring in

Hi! I signed a lease with Grandmarc but I will not be attending FSU next year. Because of the situation I must find someone I can sign my lease over to, if you are interested please message me. Thank you so much!
