I applied for Davis as a Biotech major, and put down Chem as my secondary major. Unfortunately I was disqualified from Biotech, and wrongfully assumed that they would automatically look at my secondary major. I was surprised to find out they don't even look at secondary majors! I still don't understand why you would ask for a back up major, and then ignore it.

Anyways, I was wondering if I would have a chance at appealing with this argument. And if it matters any, I was able to raise my GPA by a full point. Is there any way for me to appeal? I'm desperate as I really thought I was going to get in, and the other school I got accepted at is rescinding its offer because I wasn't able to secure a spot in a speech class this quarter!

Well the first thing you should do is call admissions and ask why you were rejected. It makes no sense if appealing with a higher gpa when it could have been pre-reqs that got you rejected. Or something else.

You might wanna give it a go if you don’t want to go to other schools or haven’t gotten accepted.

Thanks for the help. I actually did call admissions right when I was rejected, and that’s how I learned that Davis doesn’t look at back-up majors. I was thinking of appealing by saying that I knew I was disqualified from my primary major, but was under the assumption that they would review me as my secondary major instead.

ms. suns blog [Ms. Sun’s UC Admissions Blog](http://askmssun.livejournal.com/) is a good place for tips on writing appeals. and yes, i think it is odd that they request second choice majors and then ignore them. i thought someone on college confidential mentioned getting accepted to their second choice major at a UC (maybe UCSB?), but not davis. good luck!
