I Need To Get Out Of Illinois!!!!

I live in a suburb of Chicago, so its not like there is nothing to do, but I feel like I really need to get out of here. None of my friends really understand this. I was wondering if anyone else feels like this and if so, why? I think for me it is because my parents are really overprotective.

I NEED TO GET OUT OF TENNESSEE!

You have no idea how lucky you are to be close to a big city.

which suburb?

i used to live in naperville, and i felt the same way. i had to get out of the midwest...

My whole family lives in Illinois. Wilmette, Naperville, etc. I love Illinois!!!! Except my dad said there were a lot of pot heads up north, but (I think/hope) he's just saying that because I want to move up there instead of keep living in Florida.

Illinois is one of the best states in my opinion. Anyone whose class read the Great Gatsby must have had the discussion about the nurturing nature of the midwest and how the protagonist finally returns there.

Dude...I live in FLORIDA...DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE COME HERE TO DIE? (AKA RETIRE) DO YOU KNOW HOW ANNOYING IT IS?

I have that problem alongside the nothingness of suburbia...

You know was even cooler? Our best ranked university is ranked as

6 Teaching Assistants Teach Too Many Upper-Level Courses

17 Their Students (Almost) Never Study

17 Everyone Plays Intramural Sports

3 Students Pack the Stadiums

9 Lots of Beer

16 Lots of Hard Liquor

11 Party Schools

7 Dorms Like Dungeons

1 Jock Schools

by the Princeton Review.
(I know that ranks aren't everything but still...)

So HA!

I live on the west coast of Florida...so no big waves...no amusement parks

i completely agree, mcqdeltat. the midwest is very nurturing. it is just too small-town for me. and, it's like a black hole. everyone i know in the midwest stayed there for college and ended up having their college experience be something akin to high school part 2 (which is hardly avoidable considering that 90% of our high school class all go to the same state university).

whenever i come back home (i currently go to school on the east coast), it's like everyone and everything is exactly the same. on one hand it is super annoying how stagnant everyone is. one the other hand, it is very comforting to come home and have everything and everybody the way they were when you left.

so, while i am happy to be away from the midwest, it is also great to go back.

"the midwest is very nurturing"

I live in Kansas City, Missouri, and the people are really nice and nurturing--very accepting people...but I want to get out of the midwest and go to college on the east coast.

Is east coast the stereotypical old money place some people make it out to be? Bte who here liked reading the Great Gatsby?

I liked reading "The Great Gatsby!!"

I also live in a suburb of Chicago. It's not much fun in the 'burbs, but at least we have the city.

try living in the suburbs of cincinnati... then I doubt you would complain about living in the suburbs Chicago lol

hahaha, scorpion, i live in the suburbs of cincinnati now. i moved here from the suburbs of chicago. let me tell you, the places are very similar. the only difference is that chicago is a bigger city with more to do than cincinnati. and, while that is a huge difference, don't get it twisted. having lived in both places i can say that they are practically identical (outside of the whole city factor).

suburbs make american life a little too predictable. As in "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" hated the book though

ummmz, suburbs of chicago are not nearly as boring as rural Illinois. all these dairy farmers in physics about to murder my friend for being a vegetarian. and so much corn. my school smells like s**t in autumn because of it.

um I've heard the rumor that after a certain point the southern part of Illionis thinks that it part of the south and you find souther behavior in those places?

to mcqdeltat,

the east coast is not THAT old money. it is very fast-paced and sorta impersonal. but that's why i love it. i love the constant stimulation and the "on-the-go" mentality.

thats good to hear cause thats where i'm headed

oh really, what school?

and, it is quite a change to any midwesterner. everyone will think that you are super ignorant/redneck because you are from the midwest. my favorite question "do you go cow-tipping for fun?" keep in mind, i am from the suburbs and have never seen a cow up close in my life.

i must get out of ill-annoy too. monotonous. generations go to the same hs's, colleges, etc. where i live. people just need to change...how can you progress if you never make a drastic change in your life? anyways, luckily, i'm leaving next year for the east.
