Do I have a good chance at any of these 6 schools? Wharton, Stern and Schreyer would be my top priorities but the other three would be nice. How do I stand up to most of the usual applicants? :(

Yeah, I know I'm severely lacking in the SAT and standardized test areas... I'm going to be retaking all of it in October and November, but I don't expect myself to get a significantly higher score in most of these tests except US History. And do I lack awards? I really have never entered many "real competitions" which I feel insecure about that now...

Any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated!

bump… I’ll chance back anyone who chances me or gives me some advice. :)

ya u need to bring that SAT score up to the 22+ range. That will dramatically improve your chances everywhere. Also, you seem to be that laundry list type with xtracurriculars, so you definitely need to narrow down on your app. Participating in 2 activities but being real dedicated in them is better than being in 10, but just sampling them, if u get the idea.

if you’re getting 630 on SAT math twice in a row, and a 3 on the AB exam, then you’d get stomped at wharton. think 2.0 unweighted. i don’t know that these are the right schools for you.

Your gpa and exam scores are very low for schools like Wharton, Harvard, NYU Stern and the other schools on your list. Also, Harvard does not have an undergraduate business degree.

Atypicalguy: I didn’t really feel like my extracurriculars are a “laundry list” because I am actually committed to all of them and have participated in most of them for a long time. By the end of senior year I will have done all those activities for 3-4 years and Choir I will have done for 6 years. I already eliminated the activities that I just “sampled”. But if it came to picking the “top 5” that I’m passionate about then I have no qualms doing that. Thank you for your advice though.

ChoklitRain: Yeah… I’m definitely hoping to raise my SAT up. I have a friend who got in Wharton with a 1980 though, but she had a 780 on MathII. So I’m hoping I will be able to significantly get my MathII to around 740+ to perhaps make up for a not so hot SATI math. Do they really look at AP scores WHILE deciding your admission or afterwards? (I was wondering about that.) And honestly, I don’t think I would only have a 2.0 UW GPA if I attended Wharton. But thank you for the advice. :)

welles10: How is my 4.03 GPA low? It’s unweighted. I’ll try to up my exam scores. And thanks for letting me know the bit about Harvard. :)

More people give me some advice? I’ll be happy to chance anyone back if you provide a link. :)

Well, to be honest, while your grades are superb, your SAT score (and somewhat your AP scores) is definitely going to bring you down with these really top notch programs at these top notch schools.

But my real concern for you is your EC’s. I’m not saying they’re bad (they really aren’t!), but it’s just the fact that they seem more science oriented than business oriented, in my opinion. And if you’re applying to Wharton, aka one of top business schools in nation/world, I’m thinking you need more business oriented EC’s. But that scholarship for like $200,000 is really quite impressive, whatever it’s for haha.
I’m not saying it’s too late! heavens no! it’s still summer, so go out there and do something business related, or get a job at Bank of America or a bank or something, if you can.

I hope I somewhat helped! Good luck! :)

ps. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/749162-chance-rice-emory.html

What is the highest possible UW GPA at your school? 4.3?

jamesford: Oh gosh no, lol. It’s basically a 4.0 standard but our school gives this slight couple 0.01 curve because all our classes are advanced. The highest I know someone has is 4.07 and that is just ONE person; she is an incredibly smart person and has close to 99s on every subject. Everyone else I know, who has straight A’s like I do, has a 4.03 or lower.

pink kleenex: Yeah… I’m saddened by my standardized exams grades. :frowning: I’m hoping my essays can turn that slightly around. (in addition to raising the scores)

Really? More science oriented? I try to avoid science like the plague! (science is definitely not my strong suit haha) The thing was the UPenn mentorship program thing did not offer business so I chose medicine instead - it was still very interesting to learn. And at the EPA internship, I chose to do more business/accounting oriented tasks like doing contracts and etc, so I can try to make it sound more business oriented in the resume explanation? Haha. I’ve been finding it really hard to find business-related summer programs or jobs… No one usually likes taking high school kids for these types of things. Plus I can’t right now since I’m working at the EPA! Thanks for your advice! I’ll chance you back.

Still open to more advice!

By the way… anyone have good tips on practicing for the science section in the ACT?
