I see a disturbing trend..................

How many of u have gone through chances threads with people who chance the others and asking those people to chance them back?logically speaking then this whole chancing thing gets quite pointless...i mean if u can chance the others why do u need someone else to chance you when u already seem to have a ood idea.
Obviously there are a few exceptions with people having knowledge of only a few schools and uncertain about others.
but sometimes i do manage a chuckle when they say chance me back :

(scratch the disturbing part of my title :))

Actually, it makes a lot of sense.

Chance threads are about opinion. Your opinion of your own chances are skewed, however when looking at the facts of another, you can toss out what you think based on the massive amounts of research you've put into your own chances. It's also just basic human mechanisms at work- there's a desire to know other's opinions because it provides more assurance. Even the most educated person on college admissions would probably have SOME desire to get the opinions of another, because self-critique is not quite accurate.

Some people are too hard on themselves, so having others chance them might give a better picture. For those who are too optimistic, it provides a reality check as well.

You're all partially right. It makes little sense, albeit more than none.
