I still have not received any word on financial aid.

Albert still says the information is unavailable and I have yet to receive anything in the mail.

My guess is that since I was not able to file FAFSA until after February 15 (it was an impossibility since my family did not have all of the tax info that was needed to fill it in without lying), I won't be getting ANY aid. If something so trivial is the difference between getting an education at my dream school and being able to work in film and not...well that's just going to be devastating, isn't it?

postavant,

It is always better to make an educated guess on numbers and fill out the FAFSA by the deadline. You can always submit changes later.

According to the NYU website, applicants submitting their FAFSA and FA application by the deadline (2/15/11) get priority consideration.

I was told that the FA Office is still working on FA packages for incoming freshmen; hence, continuing students’ packages will not be available until sometime from end of May to June. So they are still working on the FA packages for your class.

So the deadline is just priority? That’s great, all things considered.

Sorry, not so great in NYU’s case. They are known to be less than generous with aid packages. So, I am not sure what that non-priority status means. Probably not $0, but
don’t raise your hopes too high.

The one thing with my application I didn’t have complete control over…story of my life. Sigh. Parental incompetence is some kind of wonderful.

Sorry, postavant, Put it that way, I am sorry for your lack of control in this matter. Bad for your naughty parents; didn’t they tell you to adhere to deadlines? Well, you have but they have not.

My point is that NYU is just not good about meeting all need with grants and scholarships. Practically everyone gets sizeable loans except for the minority who get full ride tuition (really small minority by all reports).

So, if they are that way with people who file by the priority deadline, I doubt that they will be more generous with someone who files after the deadline. But if you have great need and they want you, they may still give you something OK. Let’s hope so, for your sake. :)
