Hey all..... I know I'm new to this site, but I was sooo disapointed when I did not get in this afternoon. UVA has been my dream and I expressed this to the admissions office so many times this past year. I thought UVA evaluated an applicant as a holistic person...I guess not. Anyway, I heard that you can find out why you were rejected? Is this true?

Listen I know exactly how you feel. Last year I applied to UVA as a senior in high school, I was denied. I felt so bad, like my world was over and never would be the same. However, I told myself that I wasn't going to dwell on it, and I enrolled in another university that I have so far gotten a 4.0 GPA in. I just applied for transfer to UVA.

What I am trying to say is, if you really want to go to UVA, and it's your dream, you can make it happen. Never, never, never, give up.

UVA DOES evaluate holistically, and I'm sure they truly appreciated your interest! Unfortunately, maybe there were other parts of your app that they just couldn't look past. Either way, this decision doesn't make you a better or lesser person. It's just a few peoples' opinion of you, which, in the great scheme of things, is nothing. There are TONS of great schools out there, maybe they're different than UVA, but wonderful nonetheless. Good luck wherever you end up, I'm sure you'll be hugely successful!

Businesss, the title of your posting, broke my heart. I hope you find Peace (you will). Good luck to you.

UVA does evaluate holistically, probably more than some elite private colleges. Considering that they are a public state college, I think it's amazing how much effort they put into the admissions decision and accusing them of doing you wrong really doesn't make sense. They denied you. Get over it and move on.

I'm pretty sure I heard Dean J mention but you can't find out what the reasoning was for your rejection. Imagine if over 10,000 students were calling UVA to find out why they were denied/waitlisted. It would be unnecessary pandemonium.

Business, I'm so sorry for what you are feeling right now. I can remember one year ago when my daughter went through this. We had just arrived at our hotel at 5:45 with her cheerleading squad for their nationals competition. It was a long, ten hour drive. I told my husband (who was at home) to check online at 6:00 and to call us. if she was in, he was to tell us. If she was not accepted, he was to tell us it wasn't going to be posted until Monday. Well, as soon as we checked into the room, one of the girls who brought her laptop gave it to my daughter. My daughter got online and saw a big, bold NOT OFFERED. It not only broke her heart, as UVA was her dream school, too, but it also ruined our trip.

Now, fast forward a year. My daughter is very happy at the school she is attending and we are saving LOTS of money (as UVA is OOS for us). This is such a hard time for you, I know, but it will all work out. I know she wondered how she could have the grades, the stats, the ECs that seemed to place her in the 75th percentile, etc., and not get in, but there are many, many similar students out there from what I understand. I wish you the best! Hang in there!!!

sportsmama: what school is you D at now? j/w

She is an engineering major at Ohio State University.

Thanks everyone for all your help! I knew UVa was a reach from the beginning b/c I was OOS (I live in Massachusetts) , however I was in contact with one of the admissions officers who legit learned my whole life story (I wanted UVa to know that my SAT's were sub par becuase I took them when my Mom passed away last year from cancer). I don't know, I do feel UVa does take that extra step to understand you but I don't feel it means anything in the end...
