I swore I wouldn't give in and ask for chances...but here I am! Pton, Rice, Emory

Okay, so I know I'm not a super qualified applicant, but I'm curious as to whether I'm doomed, or I actually might have a shot at the elites. Just be nice, please :)

Chance me for Princeton, Rice, Emory, Vandy, Duke, USC. Applied for Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship and Emory Scholars (ha), plus University Fellows/CBHP at Alabama, where I'm already in.

This is probably irrelevant, but my Princeton interview went really well! She told me she'd tell them to let me in, haha, but that it probably didn't matter much what she said.

I think you definitely have a shot at it.

It seems like you did a lot with writing, so your essays are probably great. Princeton puts a lot of emphasis on high quality of writing, so it’s hard to judge your application without reading it. It seems like you’re solid in everything.

I guess it’s just the luck of the draw now.

PS: of all the ivies, princeton admit the most amount of legacies kids. that’s definitely going to help you.

Wow, thanks! That’s a more positive response than I anticipated, haha.

I hope my essays are good…I worked really, REALLY hard on them. I know there are a lot of great writers out there, though!

Yeah, it all comes down to luck now! The hardest part is waiting.

P.S. I know…my dad picked the right Ivy to graduate from, haha

bumpity bump

I feel like you’re sort of in the same boat as me-- you definitely have a solid chance, but it’s impossible to know until we check the website on the 18th. That being said, let’s stay optimistic!

I’m really bad at chancing other people, by the way…:P

No, actually, I think you have a much better chance that me.

Haha I’m pretty bad at it, too. I want to be hopeful, but I also don’t want to be let down. Darn Hurricane Sandy for making us wait. >.<

What makes you think I have a better shot? We have comparable test scores and your ECs are way more unique.

I just feel like you would since you’re a legacy and most other things about us are pretty similar in terms of test scores, etc. Although you do seem to have more nationally-ranked awards.
It would be nice if we could both get in!

I think you have a good shot at the three of them. If you apply to all the universities you mentinoned i think you will probably be accepted for sure in at least two of them

@lexiophile: I hope we both get in, too! Idk how much legacy helps though. In the end, I guess it comes down to what the admissions officers believe will create the best class.

@simonferro: Well thanks! My fingers are crossed! Do you mean the three scholarship programs I’m applying to? If I end up even being interviewed for any of those, I’ll be astounded haha.

Rice- High Match
Emory- Low Match
Princeton- Reach

I think you have a really good shot at all of these schools! Your course-load and grades are excellent and your SAT is really good. Your legacy status at Princeton will definitely help too.

Good luck!!!

Thanks! I’m hoping for the best :)

Did you get in?

To Princeton? I don’t know. Decisions aren’t up until Tuesday.

Hey, I go to a really competitive private school where some kids have gotten into Princeton. Here are my thoughts. While you have an amazing app, the only him I could think of that COULD hurt you is that you haven’t dont have community service. Other than that, with the legacy especially, I’d say you’ll probably make it! What’s your class rank? Top percentages really help

Also top schools really look for something unique, but again, I think you’ve got it. Good luck!

Yeah, community service isn’t my strong point. I did found a charity club, but it only started this year, and I am in NHS, but I don’t have a ton of hours - maybe 20 over the course of a year, which is pretty sad, considering.

Thanks for the super positive response  I hope you’re right! My school doesn’t rank, since we don’t weight grades, but we use quartiles, I believe, and I would be in the top quartile. I’m hoping the fact that I was one of 2 out of my class chosen for my state honors academy will look good, though.

You have a very good shot! I would say make sure your essays are amazing!!
