I tend to dislike chance threads, but...

I am reading all these positive things about Stanford and it's really my #1 choice for a private school, so I'm wondering if you guys could chance me for regular decision? :)

AP Eng Lit
IB Philosophy
IB TOK

Teacher recs, I have no idea but my teachers (especially one of them) liked me quite a bit so I think I'll be just fine here.

My essays should be great to excellent, like an 8.5/10 range or something if I had to rate em :P

Non-normal stuff , which includes EC's and community service:
- 150-hr tech internship at Boeing as part of school program
- nearly 200 hours of volunteering at a hospital (I am considering a career in medicine)
- 55ish hours of tutoring college students one summer in math
- was in Key Club for a couple of years, somewhat active but didn't really have leadership positions
- played piano for 5ish years up to 10th grade

I am not an athlete but I am motivated. and I like sports, even though I'm no good at them ( :P ), for fun, not really for competition.

Stanford: desired major, Computer Science (is it harder to get in for this or does the school not factor in major decisions in admissions decisions?)

Did I miss anything important?

Thank you so much in advance for your patience and honesty. :)

Major is not considered in admission to Stanford.

Your ECs are a bit weak, though the internship is good. Obviously, you have great scores, but you’ll need more than that to get in. I’d say you definitely have a shot, but it’s probably a reach.

Your scores are really good, and I’d say you have a good a shot as any for Stanford. But I agree with kyledavid80 that given the acceptance rate, it’s not really a sure-bet for anyone. Regardless of what we think, if you know you want to go there, apply! Best of luck with the admissions process

Do you go to Troy? I feel your pain for having Knox.

Anyways, its probably a toss-up. You have great scores, but you probably heard about lots of people not getting in to their top choices even with their stellar stats.

Bumpety bump =)

Anyone? :/

your scores are there
i hope your essays showed many sides of you
people from my school get rejected people they are simply study freaks.

Whoa we have the same GPA and SAT score (including the score distribution). Make sure your essays are passionate, and you’ll have a good shot.

Are you sure you’re not my evil twin? ;)

thanks for the evaluation of course, it’s appreciated.

there are many “study freaks” in my school too, but they also know how to have a good time. i think i can group myself into that category, except i don’t really study very much :P

Stanford will be tough, but I see you getting into other great CS schools like CMU and Cornell. You’ll definitely end up at *somewhere *good.**

Thanks for the input.

haha you so go to troy…
i think only two people got into stanford last year. you know that our school is full of genuises but most couldn’t make stanford. so definitely try but it might be hard since your stats seem like a typical IB Tech student. We have like 80 every year…

hehe, are you a class of '07 student then?
we have only 50-some IB diploma candidates this year as opposed to 80ish last year. either we’re getting more stupid or lazy or our teachers are losing their motivation ;)

for '08 ( '12) so far ive heard of one or two acceptances to stanford EA and a bucketful of deferrals. maybe one or two rejections.

The cold hard truth: Stanford is a reach for EVERYONE; however, I’d say you have as good a shot as any. In my opinion the most important parts of the Stanford application are the short answers/essays because they serve as the interview. Let your true personality stand out.

I think my roommate essay does a pretty good job of expressing my quirky easygoing personality :D
