I think I made a mistake

I've spent about a month at Amherst College and I already feel that it isn't for me. The people are fine, the classes great, and the campus gorgeous but I don't care for the general atmosphere the student body creates-that is one that does nothing but party on the weekends and is largely dominated by the "preppy" and "jocky" students.

That being said, I'm planning on starting a Common Application transfer application soon but I have no idea what schools I should look at. Currently, I'm planning on applying to University of Chicago, University of Rochester, and Case Western Reserve University. I'm looking for mid-sized research universities (and potentially a liberal arts college if one fits), with geeky student bodies, close to an urban area.

I had a high-school GPA of 3.92, an ACT score of 33, various athletic and other extracurricular activities, and am on track to a 3.7-3.9 GPA at Amherst with the possibility of a student government position.

If anyone has advice on where I should look, what I should look for, why I should stay at Amherst, what I should do next, or anything else you can think of I would greatly appreciate it.

Give it more time. Sooooo many freshman want to transfer at the beginning, but eventually they get used to the school they are at, and find their people. Give it your very best shot to be happy at Amherst until Xmas and then if you still don’t like it, maybe you can think about transferring. It is too early now.

I agree with this and told my D1 exactly that. Most applications aren’t due until late winter/early spring and you won’t be able to ask for prof LORs until this semester is finished. So work hard at making it work. D1 did end up transferring, but believe me it’s not the preferred option if you can make a great school like Amherst work for you.
