So I forgot to register for courses after my summer registration which I did online. When I called up the Engineering Department to request that the hold on my account be released for a while to allow me to add courses, they said it only gets released in August and that's when I can add courses. So till then, I wont know my schedule or courses.

Am I totally screwed?

Will there still be courses available that late?

Anyone with knowledge in this area, please help me out because I'm really freaked. Thanks.

Call them again, hopefully you’ll get a different advisor or someone else that will withdraw the hold. Some advisors don’t do it and others do so you just gotta get lucky.

Are you sure? They were pretty firm. Have you been in this type of situation? Also, Do you know if there will be classes available in August?

As an incoming freshman last year, i went to orientation/registration at U of I and a week later I wanted to change my schedule. I emailed 1 advisor who said they couldnt do anything for me so I emailed another and she lifted the hold. So its definitely possible. This wasnt for engineering tho. It couldnt hurt to call again. There are bound to be some spots in classes in august, but they probably wont be at the best times that work with your schedule. Call/email them, explain the situation, and go from there. Good luck!

Thanks. Any chance you could pm the email of that advisor? Or is he/she from the major you’re taking?

Also where can I find the email of advisors?

Yea it was a biology advisor. Go on the engineering website or google uiuc engineering advisors.

Dude you’re fine just call them. A few days ago I called because I wanted to switch a course and they said they’ll release the hold for two days.

Thing is, I called recently and they said they wouldnt do it. You know the name of who you called?

No but this is the number 2172441657

Ok so everyone so far has responded saying its not possible to release the hold. Anyone know if i can afford to wait till August 25th to sign up for classes or will i be screwed?

I would be surprised if any of the freshman courses that you’re likely to want to register for wouldn’t have a section, at least one, with open seats. You’ll be able to register, but your schedule won’t be optimal. You may have sections that meet at 8am, with an hour or two between courses, and your last course might be at 7pm. Adapt, and use the time between courses to do homework. This is college. Every term, every student is given an enrollment window. When that window opens, you enroll. If you forget, you go to the end of the line and pick up the scraps. If a section of a course is full, you can attend and ask the instructor whether he/she will allow you to enroll. If not, pick another section, or another course that will get you closer to your intended degree. Are you done with all of your general education requirements? What courses are you trying to sign up for? The freshman engineering math and science sections are pretty large, and one is likely to have spots available.

The take away here is don’t ever miss your enrollment window. Have the sections (and backup sections) call numbers written down ahead of the window. The minute the window opens, log in, enroll…don’t wait. Lesson learned.

Aklauss17, do you by chance happen to remember the name of that biology advisor that lifted your hold??
