I think I'll take the Literature plunge...

so i haven't heard great things about this literature SAT II but you know, why not give it a shot? i think i'll take it last, in case i feel very confident in my first two, i can always choose not to take it.

ok, but now the problem is.... HOW DO I PREPARE? i know, its difficult and theres nothing you can do but read and long term vocab build up etc...but i mean what about literary terms...grammer....and to what extent are these areas actually tested? ANY INSIGHT AT ALLLLL would be helpful and i thank you in advance!

if you have access to prep books (there are a lot for literature i think) than you may take advantage of that :)

moreover, there is a section for each subject on collegeboard.com, including a list of areas tested (i guess) and a few practice question.

As far as I remember it, there is very little (no?) grammar; most of the test is an elaborate version of the Critical Reading section of the SAT. You are given passages, prose and poetry, and are expected to answer multiple-choice questions about aspects of them, like themes, imagery, tone, and so on. It's like English class in multiple-choice form. The most difficult part for me was choosing "the one" right answer when several of them were arguably correct (there are so many ways to interpret literature!). I managed to score 750 without any preparation, so I'm not sure about what would be the best way to study for it, but practice questions and specific prep books would probably be the most useful.

thanks! i'll probably run out and get a prep book...just for the heck of it and hopefully i can get through a few practice tests...or i could do sparknotes online...hmm. also, i did the questions on the collegeboard website and just got one wrong, so i'm thinking hopefully i'll be okay. thanks again.

it seems pretty difficult. I got 0 wrong on the college board questions, but then bought the barrons review and got -17 on the first diagnostic test. I havent done anything since then though.

Hey, I'm using the Kaplan book and I must say, I find it to be a killer. Some of the excerpts are ridiculous. There was one about a crazy woman peeling wallpaper off the walls. Seriously. I need to get my hands on the official book.

Is the Kaplan book the same as the real thing or slightly harder?
