SAT II literature

I am contemplating taking this test, but I will only have ONE opportunity to take it.

I want to be certain.

In the test- do they ask you to identify quotes from books?

Must you have read many books to do well on the test (from a standpoint of knowing the plot lines of famous literature)

Or is it a test of sentence structure, reading and interpretation of passages FROM literature, and the test giving you short stories and asking you questions about them?

Thanks in advance.

All you need to be able to do is analyze literature. No knowledge of existing literature is required.

Sometimes the Lit tests throws in some literary terms as well, so studying a little Lit and Poetry vocab can help.

should you take AP literature/language before taking the lit SAT II??

It's a good idea as that'll give you practice. But the literature test is really like critical reading on steroids -- it's really hard to study for if you're not already naturally endowed with literary analysis ability.

No need to know quotes. However, analyzing is key here. It's not a memorization test like some other SAT IIs. It's generally considered one of the harder SAT subject tests so be sure you can do well on it before you take it.

is it one of those things that "english-y" people can do really well on without studying much?

lol explode you pretty much hit the hammer on the nail... doing well on it comes mostly from reading a lot throughout one's lifetime.

haaha... okay... so I'll just grab a review book and try it for the hell of it. I took a sparknotes test and I did decently on it... so if it's similar I'll probably be alright. What about the poetry terms, though?? =/ The ones I got wrong were on the Poetry /Lit vocab.... is there any place I can find a list of these words I should know?
