I think my scores won't improve

So I have taken the SAT twice this year. First in march, I got a 1020. Then I took it in June. Got a 1050. My math stayed the same but I went up 30 points for reading and writing. I’m generally disappointed and I have tried practicing, though to be blunt it could have been better.

It’s just that with a 1050 and looking into 4 year colleges/ universities near Long Island and NYC I feel like I’m in some serious trouble.

I know I could look into retaking it in October.

Should I still take a shot? Or should I look to take SAT subject tests which I have not done. This is because I actually wasn’t aware this was a thing until my guidance counselor told us about near the end of the year, but I already signed up for that June SAT. You can’t take subject and regular sat on same day.

Study over the summer and take the ACT. Some people score better on the ACT. Subject tests won’t improve your application as much as a comparatively better ACT score.

ACTs focus more on math and science if I’m not mistaken? Tbh I’m not sure cause usually SATs are something that have been more focused on in my school. I’m going to look into it

Just take a legit practice ACT and see how you like it. The biggest difference IMHO is that the ACT has easier problems that must be solved quickly, while the SAT requires deeper thought.

There are plenty of SUNY schools that you can get into with your 1050, and a whole host of non-SUNYs. I’m not sure of your major, but for starters, consider the following. (I’ll keep it to a 4ish hour ride from LI) These are schools my own kids, and the kids of my friends, have considered-- it’s certainly NOT an exhaustive list!!!
