SAT Scores

I just received my first SAT scores and they weren't great. NYU is my first choice school and I have everything I need to get accepted... aside from the SAT scores. I have tried looking up what kind of scores you need to to get in and have had all different numbers thrown at me. Most credible sources say the average SAT of how ever many thousand studends admitted is 1900-1950ish which is kind of relieving because that means a few thousand students scored less than that.

Thanks to writing >.> My score is 1790.
Math 680
Reading 590
Writing 520

I have only taken it once and I'll be taking it again next weekend, and probably a few times after that. I'm also going to start seeing a One on One SAT tutor.

What I'm curious about is what is a realistic number that I can pull my SAT up to within the next year? (I've already started doing practice tests) Will the tutor help/be worth it? Even with those scores or slightly higher is NYU possible? (Considering 8 AP's (7 if you don't count photography haha), high GPA, swim team, and all that blah)

As for which school I want to apply to within NYU stern(but that's not realistic atm) or cas. I'll go to a state school here in Georgia for free before I make my parents dish out 60k for lsp

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated =) (Obviously I know I need to raise my SATs lol)

You do not have to send in SAT Is. You can provide AP exam scores, SAT IIS, or ACT with writing instead of SAT I scores. Look at NYU’s undergraduate admissions website.

I definitely believe taking a prep course or even better an individual tutor (if the tutor is good) will help to raise your scores. Many of these prep classes or tutors will make you do practice tests over and over, along with some pointers. Just the repeated practice exams will help a lot.

The College Board lists the median range of SAT I and ACT scores for NYU. I remember ACTs is 29-31. Look up College Board site for that info. STERN SAT I scores should be much higher; at minimum 2100, but most who get in probably have 2200+ in their SAT I scores. CAS may be 2000 to 2100+ for the median scores, so , of course, you do have some people accepted in the 1900s range (maybe even high 1800s, if other parts of the application are strong).

Just off the top of my head, no links tonight because I’m feeling tired. GL!

OK, The latest SAT I and ACT median scores for NYU accepted students in the Colege Board website:
