I Think My Student Has ADHD.

it's never for sure, but i tutor this 4th grader in math and writing.

the thing is that, every so often his eyes look as if it's trying to pop right out, and he barely pays ANY attention.

even last week, i taught him how to get equivalent fractions on one day and the next, he says '2' when i ask him what is another fraction that equals 1/2.

do you think it's adhd? if so, how am i supposed to help him raise grades this way?

You can't diagnose ADHD with someone you know in a tutoring session. ADHD is diagnosed by a doctor or psychologist who works with the child's teachers and family and looks for evidence in more than one setting (home, school, etc.). There could be many things going on with your 4th grader but you can't guess and assume that it's ADHD. You could read about ADHD in lots of places and could google ways of teaching ADHD students, which might give you ideas on teaching strategies to try, regardless of what problem your 4th grader has. Good luck!
