I turned in my application to my dream school late, but I forgot to clarify my reason why. Should I email them?

Hi, I recently applied to the University of Michigan, but I turned in my application a day after the deadline.
The title basically explains everything, but here’s some more information:
I was working on my Common App right up until the Feb 1st 11:59 deadline and was JUST about the turn it in, but 12:00 hit, and I got kicked out of my application. I assumed that this meant I couldn’t apply anymore, so I went to bed. The next day, I asked a UMich admissions counselor if there was a way that I could still turn it in (my application was done, I just didn’t get to hit submit), and I learned that I could’ve gone back into the Common App and turned it in, even after 11:59.
So, after this conversation, around 6:00 on Feb 2nd, I immediately went to hit submit on my application. HOWEVER, I didn’t explain my situation in the additional information section. I’m worried that I will be rejected based on this reason alone.
I’m from Michigan, and was fairly confident in my application (I’d say that it was a hard target), but It’s a tough school to get into, and kids that are way more qualified than me have been rejected. It would mean the absolute world to me if I got in, so I want to do anything I can, but I also don’t want to annoy them with this.
Should I email them to explain my situation? After 11:59 is technically still late, but it is so much better than 6:00 the next day.

No u messed up. Justifying just makes it worse.

Also u say it’s a hard target but kids are your school with much better qualifications get rejected.

Doesn’t sound like a target to me.

You have submitted your application. At this point, just let this go. There is nothing you can do about sending it late. Just wait and see what happens.

Hopefully you have other Target schools on your application list.

Agree…let it go. Nobody will be impressed with your excuse. That is why you should not wait until the very last second to put in an application.

And for the future…adhere to deadlines…for everything. In fact, submitting early is way better than late. There are deadlines for a reason.

You have to allow for glitches and trying to submit at 11:59 is now a lesson learned.

You can email admissions but make it brief.

Alright, thanks everyone! I won’t email them. I think I’ll just expect a rejection, and try to meet the transfer app deadline next year.

You may get lucky.

But based on your comment - Michigan is a reach school for you (even though you said target) - about people with a lot better credentials get rejected.

Don’t shoot the messengers - and have a happier outlook.

Find a school that you can love - and there’s more than one (i.e. Michigan). If you get in, great.

If not, love the school that loved you back - if you go in with one foot out the door, you won’t have a good experience.

Success is mostly about you - not the college. Going to Michigan won’t make you successful. And if you are a hard worker, persistent, and smart, it won’t matter if you go to Central Michigan…or Michigan. You’ll be a winner either way.

Good luck.

That’s really good advice, thank you!
