I want to get into UCSD, what are my chances?

I posted something like this awhile ago but only got two responses. it would be great if I could get a wider perspective so I'm reposting...
I did poorly my 1st semester junior year but I want to know if it is still possible to get into UCSD. A teacher once told me that it is practically impossible to get into any UC schools with a C but I wanted to know your thoughts. Here are my scores for my past high school years. If I took a college prep class, it was either because it was mandatory or there was no honors course offered.

Freshman Year:
Semester One:
-Honors English A
-Honors World History A
-Physical Education A
-College Prep Bio A
-Honors Geometry A
-College Prep Spanish A

Semester 2:
-Honors English A
-Honors World History A
-Physical Education A
-College Prep Bio A
-Honors Geometry B
-College Prep Spanish A

Sophomore Year:
Semester One:
-Honors Spanish B
-AP World History A
-Honors Algebra II A
-Honors Chemistry A
-College Prep Piano (C/NC) A
-Honors English A

Semester 2:
-Honors Spanish B
-AP World History A
-Honors Algebra II A
-Honors Chemistry B
-College Prep Piano (C/NC) A
-Honors English A

Junior Year (where I did really really badly)
Semester One:
-AP Lang B
-AP Chemistry B
-AP Stats A
-Honors PreCal C
-APUSH B

Semester 2:
I plan to get straight As which I know sounds unrealistic, but I have a set plan on how I am going to do this. It is taking all the mistakes from last semester and approaching them in a way that I think will help. So, please assume that I will get straight As this semester. Will the C in precal mess up my chances? I plan to retake that course at a community college. Will that help?

My son got a C in one semester of honors precalc and a teacher told him to forget UCSD (as well as UCB and UCLA) as a result and despite having all As otherwise and high SATs. I think that’s demoralizing crap! I’ve seen folks on this board get into Cal with a C. I don’t know how it will turn out for you or my son, but don’t dash your hopes with that C. My son explained what happened re the C on his app, not sure if that is necessary though.

Well its hard to chance without test scores and ECs but with your grades i think you have a decent shot.

My thread (chance please): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html</a></p>

I hate to be negative nelly but C’s really are killers for UC admissions especially at a school like UCSD where demand exceeds available space. If you are planning on majoring in engineering or science those C’s especially are considered negatives. Last year we were shocked at seeing who was not getting accepted to UCSD-Salutatorians that are first generation students etc. Now still apply to the UC’s but be sure to have a plan b and a plan c. Keep on working hard since it does matter. What you want in a college may change by the time you apply and you want to give yourself as many options as possible.

I’d say that UCSD is a low reach for you at the moment, but definitely within reach. You should try to get some matches and safeties, though.

Chance me back please: <a href=“**Chance me for good and rising Northeast schools ** - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1612160-chance-me-for-good-and-rising-northeast-schools-p1.html</a></p>

don’t take your eye off the prize - just have a backup plan.
