I want to go to TCNJ and then med school but are there better options?

SAT:
720 CR
630 Math <- I know i messed up in math. I am good at math, but Idk what happened. Took SAT 3 times.
700 Writing
=2050 SAT

GPA: 4.65
Top 5% of class
My school doesnt use the gpa out of 4.0 scale.

I want to become a doctor, therfore, go to undergrad and then med school.
Currently, I really like TCNJ. It's a great public institution with good education, teachers, and environment. I really liked it when i visited it.

Are there better options to go to? Would i be able to go to any top schools? Ivy League is out of the question, but maybe schools like Haverford, Amherst, William and Mary, Swarthmore, Georgetown??
I really like TCNJ, but do you think there are better options for me and my future to become a doctor? or should i stick with TCNJ, have fun, and obtain a good gpa?
Or is the top schools experience more worth it??

Do you feel you would get more out of a top school? You may end up better prepared but you could also find that it isn’t the place for you and end up transferring out of it. This is really one of those times you have to know yourself and do your best to be true to that knowledge.

If you’re willing to go abroad for college and if 6 year medical programs appeal to you, you should check out Weill Cornell Medical College Qatar. Even though it’s a completely different environment, at the end of the day you’ll have an ivy league diploma.

Is that your superscored SAT? If so, what is the breakdown of your best sitting with your best CR+M?

If you like TCNJ what’s the problem? You’ll probably get a good GPA there - which is important.

The problem with going to an elite school with kids with super stats is that you may not end up with the GPA that you’ll need for med school.

Along with a high MCAT, you need at least a 3.7 GPA (especially in the sciences) to be competitive.

Also, if you can go to TCNJ without any debt, then that’s super… Who wants undergrad debt when you could likely have med school debt. Right?

But…if you’re just feeling like you want to have more choices…then go ahead and apply to a few top schools and apply to a few schools that will give you good merit for your stats. It is nice to have choices. :)

I disagree. TCNJ is VERY competitive and they’re certainly not handing out any easy "A"s.

^^

Oh, I didnt’ mean to imply that TCNJ wasn’t a challenge…especially for classes like Orgo I and II.

I was just addressing his question about choosing maybe Georgetown or Amherst, etc, instead.

Frankly, I don’t think any good college is easy for a serious pre-med student. :)
