I want to Major in Business for Grad. What should i major in undergrad?

Of course, at first i was thinking of majoring in business/administration or marketing for Undergraduate, and majoring business AGAIN for grad.

But I heard that recently, grad colleges prefer prospective grad. business majors to be majoring in other majors in their undergrad. because they think it benefits them more in their business skills and performances.

So what i wanna know is, what major do they want from us?

I heard that it is Math Analysis undergrad major that they welcome, but i am not so sure about that.
Which major is better, and makes it easier, for ppl like me who wants to go MBA prgram for grad?

The thing with Business for Grad School, is that part of admissions is also based on your career/work experience.
When coming out of undergrad, many of the more impressive positions that would build up your resume for grad school admissions, tend to go to majors that involve quantitative and analytical skills.
Those often recruited at undergrad for internships or “business” related jobs/careers tend to be those who major in Math, Econ, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, etc…

You could technically major in anything, but the issue with this will have to be acquiring some of the skills or work experience in business to make you a well rounded applicant for grad school in business.

You could maybe double major in Econ + what ever interests you. Econ I think tends to be a good major for undergrad if you’re looking into Business.

Even though the thread is old, this thread gives a good description of business vs econ. maybe econ will become of interest, or maybe not?

You’re asking the right question so stick with it until you’re sure.

“Business” is a very generic occupation. What do you want of do when you start work with your business degree? Are you expected to have depth in the business domain of the company that hires you, or do you expect to learn that on the job. If the latter how would you do that?

I think that if you want to participate in driving the business of a high-tech company such as a Cisco or a Microsoft then you would do well to have an engineering degree + some very solid economics courses on your transcript. Or if you want to work for a Merck or a Pfizer, then replace the engineering degree with a biology degree with emphasis on bio-chemistry, immunology, etc. Or if you want to work for an insurance company such as State Farm or Anthem then … You can fill in the blanks.

You need domain knowledge to be successful in business. And indeed you need working experience to make sense of the business. So best I think is to focus on a domain of special interest to you and to complement that with strong economics courses. Then after you get your B.S. work for 2-3 years. And then move on to graduate school with a business degree as your focus.

Thanks liek and fogcity :]
maybe the first step for me is to decide which field of business i wanna be working on.
I dont wanna take econ. because evrybody says it’s hard, and there is not of career choices that you could make.

I heard that Math analysis is the most preferred undergrad major for MBA grad program but i am not sure.

and I don’t even know whether there is math analysis major.
I was thinking that doing B.S. major in undergrad will make a good impression on the grad. admission ppl since it shows your versatility :]
