I want to major in film but don't like artsy schools.

Meaning schools that are just so liberal, and with paint canvases, and wallpapers everywhere or something. I myself am not a blatant liberal, and do not impose my judgement and opinions on anyone. I just do not like the kinds of people that go to these schools.

I understand Filmmaking is art but, I want to make money as well. I feel I should go to a college that is not so specialized for the arts, but more.. general. Meaning I want a college with all kinds of different programs, and not just art programs.

Anyway, I am saying all this because I want to know what SUNY New Paltz is like and which is the best SUNY, and CUNY school for me.

I want to deal with film, and business.
School with good recreational facilities and athletics. (I want to do intramural sports)

Thanks.

It doesn’t sound like SUNY New Paltz would be the right choice for you…it is quite artsy.

So you don’t want to make artsy independent films that never make money? People on this forum are tired of me shamelessly promoting this place, but I had never heard of it until the college search began. One visit and we were hooked. They have all sorts of tracks that lead to a technical education that can lead to jobs:

[School Requirements | The School of Media Arts and Studies](http://www.tcomschool.ohiou.edu/undergraduate/sequences.html)

Beautiful place to be, also: [url=http://www.ohio.edu/weru/video1/]Ohio University - WeRU/url

What about USC, UCLA, Chapman, or Loyola? None of these universities even vaguely resembles the kind of place you’re talking about not wanting to attend. Although, announcing that you don’t like the people who attend the kind of school you’re talking about could certainly rankle some perfectly nice artsy types you’ll probably want to get along with if you’re planning to work comfortably on the kind of large team involved in making films.

So basically you want to be a producer? Do some internships. The producers that i know majored in all sorts of things, from film to journalism.
