I want to start a "Bucket List Club", Fundraising/Ideas/Realism of this?

… This may not be totally college related, as I am not doing this to “look good for college” or anything like that, it’s jsut something that I’ve always wanted to do. But as I look at it, it is a little more difficult that earlier anticipated…

Soo, the basic idea of the club goes something like this: First, the members of the club get together and vote on a few things that we would want to put on our “bucket list” to do before the end of the year. Then, we spend the first few months of school fundraising. Then, in the second semester, we complete aforementioned bucket list items.
Obviously, the items would be approved by the school first, as we wouldn’t be doing anything crazy like sky diving or getting tattoos.

However, the problem I have here is that my club advisor who I contacted said the school wants an estimate on what we plan to do for the club, and an estimate of how much money we would be fundraising. So I was wondering if I could have any advice on the following topics–

  1. What is the best way for me to get this idea passed to become a club?
  2. In regards to fundraising… this club would probably rely on it to complete the bucket list items, but the school likely wouldn’t support large fundraisers like sponsored candy sales etc. for a rather irrelevant club (I don’t predict more than 20 people to join). So what fundraising ideas do you guys have that could help us gain some money in a way that could work?
  3. So, my plan is that we’ll end up doing maybe one or two small things for our bucket list (like, i dunno, make a floating lantern and try an exotic food or something along those lines) and hopefully one bigger thing (maybe a trip somewhere? but it can’t be anything too dangerous, yet something still exciting. i wouldn’t want it to be just a typical field trip to a tourist spot or something). What ideas do you guys have for that? Also, how much do you expect something like that would cost? I know liability and stuff would also be an issue, and so would things like transport etc., so how realistic do you perceive this to be?
I am aware that the field trip-esque bucket list item might be unrealistic for a smaller and more “irrelevant” club like this one, so that being said, is there a way we could get past all the barriers (like maybe doing on the weekend in ‘our own time’, and carpooling instead of getting a bus?) If that’s not a realistic idea either, then please let me hear some ideas of bucket list items that may be more realistic!
  4. I honestly don’t know too much about starting a club or the fundraising process… What is a realistic fundraising goal? And how much work would need to be put in to reach that goal?
  5. How can I also get the members of the club eager to fundraise, and more people to join the club?

Thank you so much for listening! I hope this doesn’t sound absurd or stupid to you as it is something I’m really hoping will work! Any answers would be totally appreciated!!!

bump!

  1. You’ll need to simply be more specific about your club. Make a draft of your plan, including how to fundraise, what exactly can go in the bucket list, etc.

  2. This is really all up to you, and what the interests surrounding your school include. My best suggestion would be a food sale during some type of school event.

  3. It really depends on what’s on the bucket list, but I’d suggest taking local trips around the area and purchasing materials as necessary. For the trip part, it should be that you arrange some type of carpooling to a location. Nothing official, but make sure you do your research first.

  4. The goal, as stated before, depends on the scope of your club and what your members want, along with how much fundraising you plan to do.

  5. Offer to try and complete the helpers’ bucket lists first as incentive to fundraise. Advertising the club is as simple as advertising over school and other medias.
