So right now I am currently a freshman at APU and I plan to transfer out of APU after my sophomore year. The problem is that I don’t know if my courses are transferrable since UCs don’t have a contract with private schools. How do I know if my courses are transferable?
The courses I am currently taking right now are:
Fall 2016:
WRIT 110
ART 150
PSYC 290
GE 100
Spring 2017: (courses I plan to take next semester)
You can look up the UC transferable courses needed for UCLA by using assist.org. Since Citrus College is next door or Mt Sac nearby, input either College as your current college and your destination college as UCLA. This will list the courses needed to transfer by major. I would then look up the course description to try and match your APU classes to the CCC/UCLA courses. Do you have a transfer advisor at APU that could help or possibly you finish this semester at APU and continue your education at a CCC to aid in your transfer?
This link shows that there were 13 transfer applicants in 2015 for UCLA and 5 admitted so there should be someone on campus familiar with the process.
@Gumbymom I talked to a transfer advisor at APU but they only help students transferring into APU and not out of APU. I am sophomore still at APU. I really want to transfer out either to a UC, preferably UCLA or to a Cal State, Cal state long beach. What can I do?
If you are sure you want to transfer out of APU, then I would setup an appointment with a transfer advisor at Citrus College (since it is next door) and have them go over your current transcript to see what classes you are missing for UCLA or the Cal States. I would then finish out the semester at APU and then take any missing courses at Citrus College or any local CC.
Have you looked up if your APU courses will fulfill the UC transferable courses needed to apply to UCLA or the Cal States on assist.org? You need to look at the course descriptions of each course at APU and match to the courses at your local CCC.
If not, then I suggest you do that right away to see if you can apply for Fall 2018. . If not, you may have to wait for Spring 2019 for CSU Long Beach or Fall 2019 for UCLA/Cal States. If you take 30 units or more at a community college, you would be considered a CCC transfer which gets priority over private school transfers.
You asked about transferring last year, so you have had plenty of time to look at possible options. Why now when Fall 2018 applications due? You could probably had this sorted out in time to apply for this current admission cycle.
You need to do your own research and find out what is transferable as stated in my original post. I also suggested you consider attending a community college to aid in your transfer. The ball is in your court now so talk to a transfer at your local CC.
