Just graduated and entering California community college right now with sophomore status thanks to ap credits and I’m trying to transfer as a junior applicant for fall 2018 quarter. In high school I got a 5 on Calculus BC, Statistics, Chemistry, US History, and Human Geography; 4 on Computer Science,Physics 1, and Macroeconomics, and 3 on US Gov and Microecon (self study). Since I didn’t take AP lang or Lit exam in high school I need to take two semesters of freshman compositions courses. For my major I need Statistics (satisfied by Ap score), 4 semesters of the Calculus sequence (First two satisfies with Calc BC), Intro to C++ (Don’t think Comp Sci works cause it’s Java). I also need to take a foreign language, cause I wasn’t able to take two years of the same language in high school(I moved every year and previous schools didn’t have the languages I was taking). I’m also thinking of taking of taking Public Speaking to meet Cal State Admissions. To meet the IGTEC I’m thinking of doing Biology and an Art Course. Finally to meet a community college requirement for an associates degree I’m planning to do a class called Fitness for Living to satisfy the lifelong learning requirement. As far as admissions are concerned, what order should I take all these or do I really need to take all these? I’m stronger in social science and stem then I am at English so should I just load up on easy classes for fall semester to have a good GPA and do English 1A in the Winter followed by English 1c in the spring ? Since my freshman year is full of ap credits, my only GPA being seen I’m guessing is from fall and maybe winter 2017 so a possible B in English could drastically bring down my GPA with this one semester of grades they’re looking at. But then again I may not get admitted because admissions may be skeptical of whether I’ll finish the English requirement. Please help with any knowledge you have for transfer admission for students who used ap credits and how AP credits will affect the application.
(Please be patient and don’t post multiple threads with the same question. )
Use assist.org and check UCLA’s policy on APs for transfer admissions. Each department has their own guidelines.
@erichioro My bad, my thread was accidentally in the wrong section so I decided to post it in the uc transfer side and it said my new thread will be reviewed before being posted. I didn’t want to get in trouble for double posting so I asked an admin to move my original thread and assumed the other one I posted would not be approved, but I guess it was and now there’s two threads. I used assist for UCLA as Stats major and it says a score of 4 or higher satsifies the stats requirement to transfer and score of 4 or higher on calc bc fufills the first two calc classes of the sequence. So the classes that I need to take now according to assist are C++, Multivariable, and Linear Algebra/Differential Equations. Of course I also have the other courses mentioned above in the thread too so I’m wondering what order I should take them or if I need to take all the courses I mentioned earlier
I would take courses that you will be able to get all A’s in the fall semester/quarter. Because if you get all A’s in fall it’s going to greatly improve your chances of getting into UCLA.
For upcoming fall semester I would take C++. Multivariable calculus, and two GE courses/English.
For spring I would take Differential equation, linear algebra, and two other GE courses.
