Right now I'm attending SMC (Yuuuuuck! Can't wait to get out!) and plan to apply for Fall '08 to admission as a Junior.

I graduated high school in '05 and took a year off to go live and work in the UK, for the experience. I just got back this summer and started school a week later... Do you think they will like the fact that I took a year off to go live abroad or do you think they would look down on it?

Anyway, right now I have a 3.63 but plan to raise it to at least like a 3.8? (By the end of this summer) I don't have many ECs other than the fact that I work 30 hours a week and go to school full time... but I am also (on the side) learning Arabic and I was planning on maybe going to volunteer in South Africa this summer. I want to major in International Relations (hopefully double major in Political Science too but I don't know how likely that would be as a transfer). How competitive is this major?

My high school is REALLY weak so that's why I'm not applying as a sophomore. My GPA was like 2.9 unweighted and my SAT was like 1030 (old SAT), with like no ECs. I really hope that they don't hold that against me because I've changed soo much since high school and actually CARE about school now haha.

Anyway, any advice anyone could give me would be very helpful :) (from current students or prospective transferees!) of what would better my chances. Thanks!
