I want to transfer out of St. John's University (Television and Film Major)

Hello. I am currently a sophomore at St. John’s University. I would like to transfer to a CUNY school, specifically Queens College and I’d like to switch to a Computer Science Major.

I have many reasons for wanting to transfer but a major one is the financial difficulty my family is suffering from me attending this school. It was really bad during my freshman year and the stress of putting my family through this was a big distraction. I got a 2.75 GPA for my first year and was gutted. I’ve never had a GPA that low in my life. It was a wake up call for me and I decided to either change schools or dropp out.

The reason why I majored in Television and Film was because I am interested in becoming a 3D artist working on video games / films. Mostly interested in video games. I wanted to study 3D animation at St John’s but after my first semester in this school I realized this Animation program wasn’t what I was expecting. We weren’t doing much besides taking notes on the basic concepts of animation that of which I already knew.

Reason why I want to switch to a computer science major is because I realize it can offer more opportunities and I can practice my hobbies outside of school. Getting into making video games and not knowing how to code can be a major turn off for many employers.

What are my chances of getting into Queens College and changing to a Computer Science Major? I realize that a Television / Film major is extremely different from a Computer Science Major. Will my GPA bring my chances down? Currently I have been maintaining mostly As and one C, while juggling work. I want to transfer during the Spring semester or my Junior year.

Requirements from Queens College.
“Students who have earned fewer than 30 credits need a 2.75 GPA in college work and must meet the admission requirements for a first-time freshman – see profile here. Students with 30 or more credits must have a 2.50 GPA calculated from all colleges attended.”

Have you taken calculus, discrete math, CS? If not schedule them for Spring and take only 13-14 credits.
