<p>Schools have different philosophies regarding admissions. Some schools make it very hard to be accepted, but do everything possible to keep students enrolled. In other words, it's hard to get in but hard to flunk out. Other schools accept most applicants but subject them to tough academic standards-- and many don't graduate. While here on cc, the former category is king, don't dismiss the academics at schools in the latter category. My favorite example are the CUNYs in New York. You would be surprised at who is a CUNY alum-- but it's very easy to be accepted.</p>
