I was rejected to UF, can someone tell me why?

@HectorSalamanca calling this who gig in jokes is rude. Just rude. It makes you vote off as bitter. No on with a 18 act 2.8 GPA got in ok. It ranged from 1700 sat and up 25 act and up. (GPA 3.3-4.9) doesn’t sound like a joke to me because UF saw something they liked.These people were URM and had a lot if extracurriculars, plus there essays were just fabulous. Stop bringing down those who got in. You make them feel less as a human, and frankly it makes you look jealous. You can appeal, but insulting others won’t change your predicament, just be happy for those who got in.

I don’t mean to make others feel bad. But if you were here in campus, you would agree with me that there are quite a bunch of students who do nothing but get wasted all the time, cut classes, have academic probations, and really just are “bad” students that UF admitted. Which is a failure imo.

I’m not jealous; I’m already a junior at UF. But it does worry me thay UF selects “bad” students over others who deserve it more, and the fact that it could’ve been me who was rejected in similar circumstances.

I applaud those who got in. But I won’t respect you if you go off being one of those “bad” students.

Absolutely I see that in my school I would love to rip on them but then I know I am being as bad as they are. I let life get them, those kids who got lucky getting into hard colleges will fail or drop out giving people like an easier chance to transfer in.

@HectorSalamanca, I think it’s a bit offending that you refer to everybody beneath his scores as “slackers.” I had lower ACT scores, but they weren’t horrible. I was accepted and am definitely not a slacker, but if you compared our stats side by side, he would look more like a “winner.” So I’m really sorry for his disappointment, but he obviously has more options available to him. But don’t disregard people below his stats as slackers and not excellent students. It’s degrading, offensive, and rude.

Exactly @sunwin3

3.4 unweighted GPA sounds really low. I think all of those Bs may have prevented you from getting in. Your 4.0 UF recalculated GPA is very borderline and below the 25th percentile.

@sunwin3 and @135pipe
I don’t know where you guys are getting that I am calling anyone who does worse than Sterry a slacker. I never said that. Sterrys stats are even better than mine when I applied to UF. All I am refering to are those who barely put the effort (those that come here only to party and get wasted all the time) and pretty much “wastes” the opportunity for someone else more deserving just because UF decided holistically.

I don’t think you guys have ever visited UF. If you think all students here are good students, you’d be very surprised to see the number of people at risk of being kicked out (academic probabtion). I think you guys should just wait and see.

Just about all users on these forums do not fit in my definition of slacker at all. By being here, you show me that you are interested and will not be one of them. I am sorry if anyone thought I was calling them a slacker, but I have not referred anyone here as a slacker anywhere at all.

I think it’s like at most schools you know. I understand what you are saying, but word in a way that it won’t be taken another way

@135pipe
Okay sorry if you took it the wrong way. I really don’t mean to be offending anyone. I’m an engineer not a writer.

It’s fine

Also rejected by UF 2014

7 Dual enrollment classes, will finish with 17 AP classes, Varsity letter in wrestling, rowed crew, ran track,
Senior Schedule, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Calculus B/C, AP Government, AP Economics, Dual enrolled humanities. We don’t understand it.

@mrsnesbit Are you instate or out of state? I had the same test scores as you and got in, and at the time I submitted my application, my weighted GPA was 4.96. I had no sports, but a few extracurriculars. I’ll finish with 13 AP’s and 3 dual enrollment classes. However, I;m in the top 5% and instate, as well as Hispanic. Maybe that was it? I know your rank is top 10%, but what exactly was the number? Do you think your essay was strong or that you showed enough interest?
