Give me 1 (ONE) school and your basic stats (using the form below) and I will chance you. If you give me more than one school I will chance you for the most prestigious one on the list.

beatfreaks: without that 400 pt increase, you SAT’s aren’t gonna cut it for UChicago. Your EC’s are pretty cool and will do good for you. DEFINITELY retake those SAT 2s for at least 600+. I would drop the ACT altogether, and throw all your weight behind getting those SAT’s up. Read a lot in your free time and make lists of vocab words that arent familiar. Try the SAT Question of the Day for extra practice. Definitely get some practice books and run a few trial tests with a stopwatch. That said, for UChicago to get into the reach zone you need to at least get your SAT’s above 2000, but I think given some concentrated effort its doable.

alex: You are kind of on the brink for UCBerkeley. I would definitely retake your physics and bio subject tests as you are applying to an engineering school - you might also consider throwing in math 2 again as it has a great curve and you are close to an 800. Your rank, IB Diploma, and GPA will definitely help a lot, your SAT’s are sort of neutral- they won’t kill you but they don’t make you special. Keep going with that community service and try and focus your EC’s around what interests you most. Good luck

SCHOOL: Private Catholic School - Took almost the most rigourous class load
STATE: Michigan
SAT/ACT: ACT 32
SAT 2: None but AP tests (5 on both english comp and bio)
GPA: 3.7ish unweighted
RANK: top quarter prob (but unsure)
3 BIGGEST EC’S: Parish Council Member at my Parish, Around 30ish hours of medical internship in an ER, Varsity Tennis
3 BIGGEST AWARDS: NMS (unsure if I will make semi…right on the brink)
ANY HOOK: Legacy (dad attended)

Pratt School of Engineering (Duke University)

SCHOOL: Public; sends few grads to top schools
STATE: Ohio
ACT: 35 (34E, 36M, 35R, 35S)
SAT 2: Not required if sending ACT
GPA: 3.98 / 4.00 UW
RANK: Top 5 / ~300
3 BIGGEST EC’S: School newspaper (10-12) with leadership in 12th; Baseball (9-10; Varsity 11-12); Math Tutoring (11-12)
3 BIGGEST AWARDS: National Merit, Scholar Roll (10-12), Perfect Attendence haha (9-11)
ANY HOOK: Applying ED?

you are in that comfortable phase where you can only cross your fingers and hope for the best
you should still take SAT 2s: imagine if you were to be rejected from duke and then forced to apply RD exclusively to non-SAT 2 schools (your options would be limited and you would end up somewhere below your league)
judging by your 36 math, you could definitely pull an 800 math 2 easily
-you might try for some more exciting/exotic volunteer work/ec’s. sports and tutoring are a bit vanilla, but if they alone make you happy then by all means stick with them.

Should I really take SAT 2s? I didnt think the average student was supposed to take them if they had a normal highschool experience and took AP’s etc…

kirtip: as i said to biner, though your main school may not require them, if notre dame doesn’t work out then you will be unnecessarily restricted in your choice of back ups having not taken subject tests. they can only help you, and its a security measure worth taking. if you dont end up needing them, its just one more positive thing to put on your notre dame app.

I would prepare to take Bio and something that requires less studying (like English Lit if you’re good with poetry) for the October Testing date, and then take the SAT one more time in November (only study if you feel you need to), just to give it one last hurrah and improve if you can.

SCHOOL: Lehigh University
STATE:PA - (attends private school in DE)
SAT/ACT: 1250(610CR, 670M, 640W) - (I have been taking a course over the summer - taking in october again)
SAT 2: 800 MathII, 680 US History
GPA:3.9
RANK:(School doesn’t rank) Definitely top 25%
3 BIGGEST EC’S: Started electronics business, 4 yr Varsity Lacrosse, Community Service
3 BIGGEST AWARDS: National Honor Society (inducted at two different schools - 1 public, 1 private), Mentioned in this book: [url=http://www.amazon.com/Best-Instructables-Do-Yourself-Projects/dp/0596519524]

The Best of Instructables Volume I: Do-It-Yourself Projects from the World’s Biggest Show & Tell (v. 1),
Selected as young Maker Market seller for Make: magazine.
Any Hook: An article in HowStuffWorks.com was written about my business and my electronics kits.

loppyfoot:
-even without taking an sat course, an 800 on math 2 definitely means you can pull your sat 1 math up to a 780-800, which will pull you over 2000, which combined with the course help should bring you over 2100
the best thing you can do for yourself right now is get a stop watch and practice doing sections and essays
your ec’s and being published definitely give you extra points
haul *** in the first semester and get into the top 20% at least
-with a ~2050 id say lehigh is a low reach/high match and with a 2100 its a fairly safe match

SCHOOL: Georgetown , U Chicago, Vanderbilt
STATE: Wisco represent!
ACT: 30 ( 30 E 32 M 28 R 28 S )
SAT II: Studying for them right now … takin in october
GPA: 3.92 on the most difficult schedule at school ( all ap and honors since soph year … however, only 3 years of spanish )
RANK: top 7 %
3 BIG ECS: Captain of CC and Swimming, Piano lessons 11 years
3 BIGGEST AWARDS: idk sports awards? mabye?
HOOKISH: I play 5 instruments ?

valkarie:
-retake that ACT for at least 30+ on all 4 sections, once you’re in the 32+ zone i wouldn’t worry about it
-rank+ sports+ gpa + geographic diversity + music (submitting an arts supplement?) are all good
-with a 29.5->30, I would say that Vandy is a low reach, Georgetown is a midreach, and UChicago is a mid/high reach
-with a 32, Vandy is a Match, Georgetown is a low reach, and UChicago is a mid reach
dominate those subject tests and find something really meaningful and impassioning for your essay topic
idk if you just didnt think it was important enough to put it down, but get some cool volunteer work
