Published in Teen Ink, Cicada Magazine, and school's literary magazine - I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for other magazines!

I have over 300 + hours with volunteer experience, and I have work experience at a medical clinic over the summer. I'm also a private musician and private tutor for science/math/writing.

Summer Activities:
• Best Buddies National Leadership Conference – Indiana University
• Summer @ Brown Program:Psychology
• Internship at Brain Center

I know my scores aren't that great, and I won't be taking the SAT again (only the ACT and I hope to do well there) - I want to go into the fields of psychology/neuroscience, creative writing, and music. A bunch of my EC's revolve around Creative Writing (literary magazines, publishings, tutoring, awards, etc.) and I've also done a lot with music (competitions, festivals, piano accompaniment, private musician, etc.) and with psychology neuroscience (AP classes and scores, Summer at Brown program, Internship, work at medical clinic, etc.) Will it hurt me that I haven't worked at the hospital - I'm not a typical Asian with top scores and incredibly strong GPA and all that - but I do have a lot of leadership and passion with my EC's and volunteering. I love writing & I think my college essays will be good & my rec letters should be good too. Can I make up for my low scores with my EC's and stuff? Also, I'm not entirely sure If I really want to go into neuroscience/psychology - so is it necessary for me to take the bio subject test or can I rely on a 4 or 5 on the bio ap (granted that the colleges I'm applying to don't require specific science subject tests?)

here are the colleges I'm thinking about - can you guys tell me if they're reaches/matches/no chance? I'm out of state by the way - Nevada.

University of Chicago
University of Michigan
Brown University
Washington University in St. Louis
George Washington
UCSD
UCLA
UCB
Georgetown
Dartmouth
Duke
Cornell
Northwestern
John Hopkins
USC
NYU
UCSF
U of Virginia

Any ivies that I have a chance for? Even a slight chance (granted my ACT score turns out well along with essays and recs?) I'm really hoping on UC schools and University of Chicago. My school profile is exceptionally strong too and sends more than 10 kids to UC schools every year. Also, as for my ethnicity, my mother is somewhat hispanic, but I've never truly identified myself as hispanic/asian - just mainly asian or other whenever ethnicity questions were asked on standardized tests. So should I include hispanic/asian?

Thanks guys! and I will chance back!

I don’t see how you could improve your stats…although it’s a bit early to be saying that you’re going to be in all these clubs/teams your senior year, isn’t it? Anyway, here’s my chance thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1167001-do-i-have-decent-chance-being-accepted-into-university-washington.html</a></p>

Your EC’s seem fantastic, definitely not lacking there. However, I would work on improving your GPA and standardized test scores. Study for the ACT and aim for a 34 or so. This will give you more viable chances for acceptance to the Ivies you listed. Otherwise, I am blown away at how involved you are. You are obviously determined and will succeed regardless of where you attend college. Good luck!

Thank you hiqinohio! I really appreciate it! What do you think about U of C, U of M, and the UC schools? Also, should I include both hispanic/asian on my ethnicity even though I’ve usually identified myself as “other” on standardized tests?

Focus on SAT M and CR, don’t bother with ACT. Your ECs are off the chart and gpa is great. I would include Hispanic due to high competition among Asians and schools’ commitments to diversity. Assuming your rank is impressive, I doubt any of your schools are reaches but ivies are competitive regardless. Just apply and go where you want since all are great. Good luck!

it’d be really helpful to know your class rank if your school ranks.
Otherwise, good EC’s, but a little lacking on the SAT score.

University of Chicago - low reach
University of Michigan - high match
Brown University - reach…i mean, the acceptance rate IS 9% so pretty much reach for everyone.
Washington University in St. Louis - low reach
I think for the UC schools you have a good chance/ all matches.
Georgetown - low reach / reach
Dartmouth - reach
Duke - reach
Cornell - low reach
Northwestern - high match / low reach.
John Hopkins - low reach
USC-match
NYU-high match
U of Virginia - match / high match!

work on your SAT ! YOU CAN DEFINITELY BRING IT UP  Just have discipline. Haha, that’s what my dad tells me. I really need to bring up my own SAT score!

Chance me back!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1165439-please-chance-me-also-can-i-actually-get-into-any-these-aiming-too-high.html</a></p>

with your current stats:

University of Chicago - low reach
University of Michigan - very good match- Friend goes here loves it
Brown University - reach for people with 2400’s but it is possible
Washington University in St. Louis - Somewhat a reach- friend denied who seemed perfect for it
Georgetown - Low match
Dartmouth - reach
Duke - reach
Cornell - low reach
Northwestern - medium match
John Hopkins - low reach
USC- high match
NYU-high match
U of Virginia - high match!

You look great i would accept you! Raise those scores and you will more than likely be set! I hope you get into wherver you apply :)

thank you so much guys! appreciate the thoughts! I’ll chance you guys if you ever need me to!

You have a lot of great stats. I’m pretty sure you can get in to whatever school you want without any trouble.

I would retake the SATS to bring your scores up if I were you.

Id say pretty good chance for the UC’s, and university of Michigan. Your EC’s really are amazing, and colleges love that even more than an extra 100 pts on the SAT. It shows a lot more dedication than a 2200 on the SAT. Try for a 34 on the ACT, its really not as hard as you’d think. I’m not sure about Cornell or Dartmouth, but everything else looks like at least a decent chance. I’m just amazed at your EC’s and your leadership. Great job  BTW, I think UVA would be perfect for you, especially if you get a 33+ on the ACT.

Your extracurriculars are absolutely amazing! What’s invisible children? It sounds interesting. Anyway, what caught my eye right away about you is your uniqueness. You are utterly out-of-the-ordinary, and I think that’s what colleges appreciate and like! You sound like an interesting person. Honestly, I think you have a solid chance at entry into any of these schools, provided you write an essay that is as unique as you are. I might retake the SAT once, but other than that you’re good to go! Good luck! You should message me telling me more about invisible children!

Are you kidding? Your ECs are particularly amazing. I think you definitely stand a high chance for all of the universities you’ve listed. I do not think they pay as much attention to the standarized tests any longer, so relax on those. Though, if you do have the chance to improve them, definitely try to do so.
Good luck with that!!!
Oh, and please you and anyone who read this, please chance me… I really have no idea about what my chances could be
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1167675-chance-international-student-argentina-please.html</a></p>

The thing is that the SAT acts kind of like a filter. That is why it is important to a certain extent but once you get past 2350 or so it doesn’t really matter. So you’ll be ruled out of many top universities. I highly recommend you to retake it if you have the time.

avatarmage, if I got a 32 on the act should I use that instead of the sat score? and thank you guys for all your input!!!

I’m not familiar with act because I’ve never taken it but looking at this conversion table: [SAT-ACT Conversion chart](http://teachers.sduhsd.k12.ca.us/lccounseling/sat-act_conversion_chart.htm)

a 32 = 2130. That’s good but I’m sure someone as brilliant as you should aim higher! I mean looking at your overall resume, it’s stunning. You don’t want a stupid little standardized test holding you back. Good luck.

Try to raise your SAT scores especially if you’re aiming for Ivies. Your ECs look decent, but nothing really stood out in my opinion. But overall, you have good stats and would make a competitive applicant to many of the schools on your list. Also, if you’re part Hispanic, only state so if you idenitfy yourself as Hispanic, otherwise it would be pointless to do so. And thank you for chancing me :)

First off, your ECs are incredible. Kudos to you. Now, the SAT is the only issue. Don’t bother with the ACT (unless you really think you can score well). Try the SAT one more time.

University of Chicago: low reach
University of Michigan: low reach
Brown University: reach
Washington University in St. Louis: match
George Washington: don’t know this school very well
UCSD: match
UCLA: low reach (these guys pay attention to scores for OOS peeps. tougher than in state like me)
UCB: ditto
Georgetown: don’t know enough sorry. Though a kid at my school is going there and he had great ECs like you. Wasn’t a world beater by any regards so I’d say you have a decent shot, especially with your writing acumen.
Dartmouth: ehhhh stats weigh you down. reach
Duke: ditto
Cornell: reach
Northwestern: match (i think you can write a great essay and get in to this one)
John Hopkins: reach (your ECs need to be very streamlined towards bio or med if you want to bolster your chances here)
USC: match (play up the hispanic here in your essay and your ECs will do the rest. great financial aid here)
NYU: match/low reach
UCSF: this is a med grad school only. Unless you meant USF?
U of Virginia: don’t know enough

thanks for the chance!

University of Chicago - high match

UC schools all seems like matches. good luck! :)

You seem to have great stats, the only thing your lacking in is that SAT score.
If you improve that to about ~2200, you can get into any of those schools.
