I hope you do realize what a stupid post this is.

What I dont understand is why do people want to act like good schools are just pulling random rich black kids with low scores and just putting them into thier schools while over-qualified white kids are getting rejected. Lets not forget that its rare to see a top tier school with a student population of 10% in the Hispanic or Black categories. To the dummy that posted this thread, know that if your wish to be black exteneded beyond admissions time you would be bitter as hell. While Im at school thinking twice if i should have taken a hard class because I dont want my friends thnking Im a sellout or the white ones thinking im in over my head, you're in your cul-de-sac hoping to get in your first choice. Being black and rich or black and poor have one thing in common that hinders their progress in a white man's world: THEY'RE BLACK. If I was rich and black my perception of things may be different, I dont know. Before you all think Im some Black Panther type, I strongly feel that economic factors should play a major role regardless of race. Even if a minority (Hispanic or Black) is rich they should get consideration because theyre black because theyll have gone through struggle or go through them because of the ethnicity, Also much more consideration should be placed on those who are both a minority and poor and consideration to those white and poor. NEwayz get over it, AA doesnt work to a fraction of what it used to

this is NOT supposed to be a racist thread!!!!

colleges want more diversity in their campuses

As far a I am concerned AA is a program that is no where to be found! I am still yet to see someone of color actually benefit from this. Understand that historically white women have benefited from AA. Understand that as far as college is concerned most blacks are NOT MAKING IT TO COLLEGE AT ALL. Don't even let me start on black males going to college.... we are definitely the minority of the minority.

As far as someone wishing that they were black, as I read you will be exceptionally disappointed when you find out that we are not benefiting from it. As a scientist, as well as any other field of work, we have to have double to triple the qualifications to even be considered versus a white counterpart. We need double or triple the qualifications to get paid less or as much as a white counterpart with less qualificaitions.
This is so much deeper than just being black and getting some so called benefit!! Please think of what you are writing the next time before you send it. Things are not and never will be that simple!

I don't understand why people don't express their opinions at the voting booth instead of complaining in non (major) election years then basing their votes on the candidates opinion on things that should more or less be non-issues like "abortion" or the candidates religion.

excel, this thread indeed wasn't racist but it showed your insensitivity to something youll never know about, i am not trying to be mean but you got to think when you are posting something that can rub people the wrong way. Did you expect people to say, "Yea I wish I was black too!!!" .Also provide some hard facts to support them your claims (i.e. acceptance rates of black at top schools, grade, SATs) and until someone can show that blacks are obviously getting a leg up dont say youre mad about AA

Nor do I, but playing devil's advocate... have you ever voted and felt as though your vote means absolutely nothing?

Sorry, this question is to spetsnaz Op

Good response firebird....... EXCEL please read this ...

This and various other articles will tell you whom the real beneficiaries of AA are! Maybe you will wish you were a white woman! (if your not one already)

spetsnaz, what do you mean? Because if you are talking about AA, the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional to have a formula in admissions that gives minorities an advantage. They said , however, that it was ok to give them extra consideration in efforts to encourage diversity. After all the years of oppression and continued racism in obvious ways, if you cant live the fact that a minority will get "consideration" for the troubles they have or will encounter, then its just time for some deep introspective thinking into your rationale

??? I never said that I couldn't live with the fact that a minority (hell I am a minority) will get consideration for these troubles - I merely suggested that people remember this issue during major election years. You'd be surprised how many people talk about these types of issues constantly until an election year comes up and they decide that they'll vote based on other arguably less important issues. Hell I didn't even really express an opinion either way on AA in this thread so I don't really know how to respond to your post besides asking if you have confused me with someone else. I am merely advocating that people speak with their votes then see what happens (this is democracy)

da scientist: I imagine if I had voted in the last election (I turned 18 within the past year) I would feel that way since technically my vote would have been mathematically irrelevant.

spetsnaz, I wasnt speaking about you, I meant any person in general.

SpetsnazOz :Yes and many many minorities feel as though their votes are irrelevant because our issues tend to constantly take the back burner. Another issue that I wonder if the guy that started this thread knows while he is wishing he was black or mexican to get missing in action AA!

I wish I was a really really good (white) basketball player.

That way I could enjoy all the benefits of attending a top college for free without suffering the disadvantages of being a racial minority.

interesting spin!! lol

This argument is truly in absolute vain.

Think about it. In this day and age, if AA were to be completely erased; these "underqualified minorities" you speak of would still be getting admitted into these schools. Why? Colleges want diversity. It is really that simple.

Think about it this way: Top Tier schools are like celebrities. It's bad publicity to be noted as being racist. Minorities are going to be admitted. So as I said before, this argument is in vain.

One of my best friends goes to my school and has more money than I do and almost the exact same grades and test scores (mine are a little higher), but is half hispanic. She doesn't speak a word of Spanish and her family hasn't been to country for years. We're applying to most of the same schools and it seems really unfair that she's getting all these likely letters while I sit and wait.

Please, don't claim that "underqualified minorities" are getting preferential treatment, the word is being used toooo liberally. There are many minorities that are qualified and even better suited than others to attend a university. Please provide hard facts to support the allegation that they are underqualified and the need for diversity is the only reason they are in.

i agree with the original poster....im a bangladeshi and still dont get any special treatment and about 85 % of the country is uneducated......not many goes to colleges especially in america....oh well.....btw its crazy i have more posts than the original poster, and i joined about three weeks ago and he joined six months ago
