I am applying as a transfer to the UT College of Natural Sciences. I am about to complete my first year and will have 31 credit hours by the end of the semester. However, this does not include the 32 hours I have yet to claim from AP exams. My question is this, does the college offer you admission if they do not have a transcript showing over 30 hours of claimed credit? That is, will they wait until I have submitted my final grades to give me my decision? In browsing other threads, this seems to be the case. First year transfers were given decisions towards the end of May.

If this is the case, should I claim the credit and send them an updated transcript showing over 30 hours of credit hours? I would like to receive my decision as soon as possible.

I don’t think they review your application until you have 30 completed credit hours on your transcript. So, if you had claimed your AP credit and it was sufficient enough to put you past 30hours you would be eligible for a decision and receive one sometime in April. Otherwise, they wait to review your file until they get your transcript with 30 hours completed (hence the late May decisions).
I’m not sure whether or not claiming the credit now (past deadline) and sending an updated transcript would put you in that first category or not. You should call your admissions counselor (the one assigned to you on the mystatus page - not general admissions) to see what they have to say. Or send an email. I’ve found reaching them by phone can be a bit of a challenge but emailing usually receives a reply within a day or so.

Thank you, mnaacd. I am in the process of getting the AP credits to show up on the transcript. It’s been taking a while hence my inability to turn in an updated transcript before the deadline. I was mostly hoping for verification that they do need to see 30 hours on a transcript before offering an admissions decision. I will email them, thank you again.

I think your official AP scores have to be sent from college board. You may claim credits with the eligible scores after you are admitted to UT but they (AP credits) are not considered as coursework required for transfer.

I spoke to my regional admissions counselor. She told me to submit my transcript as soon as possible. After explaining that the delay in the updated transcript was due to several errors on my school’s part, she had no answer as to whether or not it would be considered late. I sent my updated transcript and it arrived on March 30th. As of yesterday, my admissions status reads that my application is complete and on time, despite the updated transcript arriving well after the deadline. I hope I am considered in the first wave of applicants and I receive my decision around mid-April. What does everyone think? Will I have to wait until I submit my spring grades for a decision? I am applying for math and physics.

Does your Admission status page say “in review”?
CNS hasn’t released any decisions yet, so it is quite possible that your app might get thrown in there with all the other “on time” ones for review but, as your admissions counselor said, it’s hard to say with the late transcript update.
My guess is that you will receive a decision “soon”, because your application is entirely complete.

I received my acceptance to CNS on April 8th despite updating my transcript nearly a month after the deadline. I applied first choice math and second choice physics.
